Actually, Bilbous' idea is pretty good. It seems sort of OOC to stand still for 6 hours afterall (because time doesn't stop just because you log out, and it seems stupid to say "I frolicked around for 6 hours and just now ended up in the exact same spot I was 6 hours ago..."

It's not like people can abuse that feature either, seeing as how it'd probably be faster just to go there, rather than log out, wait 6 hours and log back in... The type of people we're talking about are just not that patient anyway :P

I like this one too, it seems feasible and I can't foresee any abuse issues.

No, I think this would take things too far. From I gather, traveling between realms at will only be possible if you're a skilled magician. Besides, at this stage, what will the point of it be?

The point of it would be to move your character if you were suffering from a bug that prevented you from using the /die command, such as an inability to get in game due to a problem with a map.

We're not talking about solving bugs any more, we're talking about a realistic, IC and unabusable way to avoid travelling long distances.

Say you get a PM that there's a GM event in Kada-El's, but you're an Enki who's all the way in BD. If your character already knows the way to Hydlaa (i.e. you've been there), and it's been off doing it's own thing for hours (i.e. you haven't logged in) then you should be able to say it's in Hydlaa by now. And then you can take part in the GM event. Nothing OOC, nothing abusable.

It's a good idea, but I don't like that you make the decision when your about to log in.  I think you should tell your charcter to go to X BEFORE you log off.  That's more realistic, seeing as this GM event might not have been thought up when you logged off, that shouldn't give you an advantage over someone who was playing.

I don't like the idea For all those hours you stay offline, you could use a fraction of that time to walk your character over to another map. If it's "urgent" like for an "emergency" event, tough luck.

I see no merit in shortcuts like these.

I don't see it as a shortcut at all, personally, I see it more as a way of limiting in-game annoyances that tend to add up and drive players up the wall, like keeping a finger firmly planted on the Up button for 30 minutes straight.  I actually like the idea quite a lot.

I'm not sure where the up button factors in? ..Ah, travel. Well, it will get faster :) Right now it's unavoidable. As I said, if you get stuck on login, poke a GM. Responses come very quickly.

I agree that at the moment there is little need for it, I still think it would be useful when there is ten times more land that there is currently. If by that time there are commercial transportation services there fees could be deducted when you make your choice. Of course by then there may be some sort of instantaneous travel possible rendering the idea pointless.
