Legion of the Black Sun

Military Organization of the Black Sun Progressist Union

"The dawn of the black sun in the skies
Announces the oblivion of the night
A legion arises as the unborn child
Will slowly awake to its plight."

- The Codex

Preface

Those who prepare better for the time once comes the war always increase their chances of survival. For an organization that involves itself in a wide array of innovative ideas like the Black Sun Progressist Union, having a dedicated armed force to protect it from the potential threats that may arise in the future and to stand and fight for the cause of freedom even in the darkest hour is critical.
Thus was formed The Legion, based on the principles of the Tactical Independence Doctrine of warfare, putting each militiaman of the Legion as a tactically aware individual, capable of operating without the need of commanders. Thus, unlike any other force, it values individual excellence and independence and creative capability of taking decisions on the fly, as being a militiaman for the cause of liberty is much beyond the act of following orders and swinging a weapon.

Structural flexibility is one of the principles of the its military doctrine, therefore few of the existing positions are permanent, and most are assigned according to necessity.

Management

Liberty Commissioner: Regulates the path that is followed by the operations of the Legion. Also spreads internally the ideals.

Legion Watch: Members of the Black Watch. They observe the surroundings to ensure everyone is honest to the cause of freedom.

Warrant Officers: Technical experts assigned to provide specialized knowlege for Legion forces.

Strategic Officers

War Council : Overall commanders of all strategic operations carried out and they are elected by the Legion as a whole.

Combined Arms Brigadiers: Realize the integration of Combined Arms, based on launching multiple operations in multiple fields.

Tactical Officers

Captains: Guides through loose suggestions multiple divisions during a large scale action to achieve synchrony and success.

Integration Marshalls: Will be the responsables for integrating land, sea and air forces on Multiple Levels Warfare.

Militia

Commanders: Lead one of the usually small squadrons of the Legion. They are more experienced members elected by the militias.

Militiamen: Soldiers trained in both combat and basic tactics, to have the capacity of decision making and direct action.

Reserves

Reservists: Have full combat training but do not have sufficient tactical knowledge or would prefer to not work as career soldiers.

Trainees: Students of warfare that still are not ready to enter the battlefield because of both lack of tactical and combat skills.

Training Program and Principles

Still under development, the training program of the Legion will be based on the principles of the Tactical Independence Doctrine to turn each member into an army of one man from the tactical and strategic perspective.
The Legion principles are freedom, the space for which creativity and inventiveness arises among personal growth, science, a methodic way on wordly matters, focusing on a logical approach and study to solve issues instead of relying on relative and arguable concepts like faith for decision-making, and continual progress, not having any position, hierarchy or anything else stagnated and static, but instead always growing and changing.

A purpose for your life

The Black Militia or Legion of the Black Sun is looking for your potential. Look at the Public Relations Office of the Legion for more details or contact Annera Klorn.

"Being a soldier is not following orders, it is working in the service of a higher cause. When a cause is betrayed or unjust and we obey it, we are not soldiers anymore, just pieces on a chess board dying for the wrong reason."

- Principles of the Black Militia

Perhaps reading the Informational Handbook would be a good idea as well?

I wonder what it is you mean with "freedom" seeing it would be very unrealistic in my eyes to be asking for democracy. What do you fight?

Have to say that for something to atract members with you are using a lot of over complicated words that could mean several things aswell depending of your interpetation. Makes it rather vague.

@Garile: Yes, that thing on its final was a little cheesy, thanks for the feedback.

About the "freedom", it is more of defending the existing civil liberties in Yliakum, while protecting the organization it belongs to.

This "guild" is mostly defensive on its goals, and will refrain from using violence when possible as violence on the Black Sun Union is seen as more or less the same way that nuclear weapons were during RW Cold War, or briefly, use of military force will always be a "last resort" for it.
Also it is more of a militia than of a regular military force, although it is intended to being capable of adapting itself into any type of military organization according to its needs in the future.

Not exactly, but an organization that has progress as one of its goals won't use commonly methods that are more useful for keeping things the way they are than for changing them and also there are the potential legal issues(Not sure about them yet) on waging wars. They are enough justify the use of violence as a last resource for the organization as a whole. And after all this organization is more focused on fighting in other types of battlefields where physical weapons are useless. It is the manifestation of an idea after all. Thus the Legion exists to protect it and in most cases will refrain for offense, but in some specific cases of necessity, when "The best defense is offense", it will be done.

IC-wise:

*Annera believes that violence will not change anything as what happened in the past in Yliakum already proved it that waging wars only makes things worse.

This guy is really funny. He's already picking enemies and he doesn't even have a guild.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

Anyways, despite that, The structure looks good, it seems like you've put alot of work into this, and I hope for the best in times to come.

I am chilled out a bit. Does everyone misunderstand my tone? I'm smiling as I read this. Not frowning and trying to annoy people.

Looks very nice. And very military like. It looks a bit ahead of its time though. We'll see about that, I guess.

Well structured, well worded. However a bit too much information for my liking.
Disclaimer: This is my opinion and I can be reasoned with. I'm probably right, though.

@Holdan: I'm not a Star Wars fan, I never heard about that and would never know if you did not tell me, and anyway if we start the whole world for OOC references many guilds will have to change their names. After all, "Black Sun" has an IC symbolic meaning.

@Sangwa: Most of current information will be moved to the forums, and here will be kept just a brief version of it.

@Munkii: The Black Militia will not waste time with gangs, as long as they do not deal with slavery.

hmm have to agree with Sangwa it doesn't really feel Yliakumlike as I would have it in my head, but will give you the chance to prove me wrong ;)
