right, I havent searched the forum because im lazy, my connection is poor, and im trying to play PS.


But correct me if im wrong. wasnt the word 'bugger' removed from an NPC's vocabulary?

It's cute how all the Americans didn't get what it meant :P  At least where I'm from, 'bugger' is a fairly severe term, on par with 'bastard' or 'prick'...

'Course I think expletives are a very important part of writing, and very fascinating too, being the most powerful words in the English language. It always strikes me as amusing how much turmoil a few letters in a certain sequence can drum up...

lol, I love the cute pic, but raithen (if that is the right name) called me a' little bugger' not long ago, infact I think that quest was implemented after the bugger arguement.

Just ignore that old discussion.

I wouldn't worry about taking the *bleep* so far.

And I doubt these guys here would give Planeshift a positive review just because the word "bugger" was cutted off, specially due to a certain horny and red race.

to be honest i dont think bugger is a bad word fact a lot here in the uk dont really us it here eccept for kids. a lot of the time wed use it is is something went wrong or we hurt ourselves i.e a much less offensive way to sware. but even at that most adults us the much much stronger words i dont see why this word should offend ppl.

I think it would depend on it's usage, I can think of one way that would be offensive but just "bugger" isn't offensive or the way the NPC in question uses it. Not to me anyway.

"bugger" and "Little bugger" have two separate meaning, being a older generation Englishman I am offended by the fist, on the other hand the second does not offend me in the siltiest.
I use a word very common to me in RL, every day, because it is my wife's REAL name, but if it was uttered out load in another country, I would get some very severe looks, and possibly a word from the law.
So to my point of posting in this thread, if a word is used that offends some one please refrain from using it around them.

lol, is your wifes name Pippa? I remember during the olympics in Athens they had to call one of the British competitors Phillippa because Pippa meant something rude in greek  ;D

I got suspended from school once for referring to my friend Richard as 'Dick' during a public seminar with First Year parents... :P

I didn't even think anything of it - I always call him Dick, 'cause it pisses him off so much, but also 'cause it's perfectly innocuous. But then the deputy principal got this stony look on his face and called me aside to tell me I was being irresponsible...  :sleeping:
Then I "talked back" and told him that 'Dick' was a nickname for 'Richard', so he suspended me and banned me from public speaking in future :P

Parents didn't even care though... A few of them chuckled...

The 'bugger' debate is long since dead, and doesn't need to be revived IMO.

I would like to mention, though, that AFAIK, the intended environment is sort of PG.  Therefore, words like 'hell' and 'damn' and 'crap' should be acceptible, whereas worse words should not be.  I may be mistaken here, though.
