Excellent Work!!!

It's been a long long time since i've visited the PlaneShift website. I remember in '03 when sooo many people were waiting for the first release of PlaneShift and were terribly sad when it was delayed. Unfortunately, I was one of the few who missed the Alpha testing ('04) but was fortunate enough to make the Beta testing. The features were quite dim compared to what PlaneShift has reached now, as were the areas. Well, enough ranting on the past. As I came onto the website today, I was completely shocked. Truthfully I didn't expect the project to have pushed this far this quickly, considering payment isn't required to play. To sum this up... Excellent Work! I intend to stay here and play the game now, since it's playability is beyond what it used to be. I hope the PlaneShift staff continue to do such great work as well as the sponsors who smile at this game. Now for my last, and more official words.

Finding an MMORPG that actually has a strong Role-Playing community within is hard to find. PlaneShift is one of the few that delivers and delivers well.

Thanks. As for the 'He should get Cookies'... simply said, LOL. Yeah I really took my time with that post, wanted to make the staff feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I was SHOCKED when I saw the version number. I looked at it, '0.3.018' WHAT!? It's that holy crap moment when you've seen that you've missed so much on a good project. I tried toying with CrystalSpace myself but unfortunately, it was too confusing to even get it to run correctly at the time. It's probably better now so I may take a look into it and perhaps one day contribute to PlaneShift. Reminds me of an online version of one of the greatest single-player RPGs alive. I leave the name out as to not advertise. I'm redownloading the game now (Torrent is so slow) so hopefully i'll see everyone there!!!

As a dev, I can tell you with confidence that it is really great to get posts like this. :-)

Thanks for sharing your excitement with us.  It really is why a lot of us participate in this project, believe it or not...  ;-)

Just for the record, I also recognize (probably all devs do) that MOST people who like something aren't going to post about it.  They just play and have fun and move to the next thing when they're done.  That's how I do it on other websites or when I use OSS software or shareware.  I've used dozens of things over the years and I might have emailed ONE of them to tell them thanks.  It's just how it goes.  The people with negative opinions are the ones most motivated to post publicly or respond at all.

So thanks to all you lurkers out there too.  Your silence is golden.  :-)

Alpha is the first playable version of a game. prealpha is when it's just code on a computer. Think we are way beyond that, although I wouldn't call it beta yet either.

Alpha means it's still adding key features but, it's playable.  So yes, I agree with Garile.

Beta will be when all the key features are in (Fighting, Crafting, Traveling systems, Gouvernment).  Nowhere near that

Yeah, this game still needs much work with its features (NPC System anyone?) but it seems to be doing quite well. There are also quite a few graphical glitches in the game but all of this can be caused by so many different variables that i'm sure it will take some time to fix. Afterall, the PS staff isn't that of a major company. They require sleep, food, jobs even so we'll just have to be patient. I really hope to see the NPC system fixed overall, I can't get any PP yet.
