CEL environment variable
« on: March 08, 2003, 09:25:26 pm »
Hi all,

I just finished downloading and installing the latest release. When I tried to run it, I got the message. \"no CEL environment variable set! Using alternative 3D driver: crystal space.graphics3d.opengl. WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.font.server.multiplexer\" followed by some messages that disappeared before I could read them. Then a message box informed me that the program had performed an illegal operation. WHen i clicked the OK button, the app shut down.

I could not find any instructions for setting the CEL variable.

Any useful advice available?

Norm

i have also noticed that i get the same error on my computer. i have just installed the latest video drivers for my card, and DirectX 9 but the error still appears. im wondering if maybe that is what is affecting me with connecting? Check Bugs section in a post about Initilizating World error for more info there...

CEL is the Entity Layer in Planeshift. By default you don\'t need to set the CEL envoriment variable but if you want the correct value is SET CEL=[the directory where you have installed Planeshift]
It is unimportant that what version of DirectX you have, because Planeshift Molecular Blue doesn\'t support DirectX (it uses OpenGL instead). It will be supported in the future, as soon as Crystal Space guys complete the DirectX8 plug-in.

Thanks Cete for the reply, just curious to which file to add SET CEL =  in. Running windows xp. Also, it doesnt seem like it would be neccassary to download the Cyrstal Space engine nor the CEL layer files.

CEL environment variable

Thanks for the reply Cete.

I set the CEL environment variable as you instructed.

When I try to run, it still says it is not set. I get the same messages as before.

The messages I did not report before indicated that it failed to load files, \"csjngimg, cssgiimg, and cswalimg\".
These dll\'s are all present in c:\\crystal_space\\CS.

Quite a few people are having problems running this release. Someone from the development team should lend a hand here if for no other reason than to protect the PlaneShift image.

These files are Crystal Space image loader plug-ins, however Planeshift doesn\'t need them because as far as I know Planeshift uses only GIF PNG and JPG files, so you can just ignore these messages

This seems like a CS bug. I\'ve seen this by CS before. I have reported it to them, but nothing seems to be happened with it.

Just do this in a DOS box and it should work:
SET CEL=F:\\Games\\PlaneShift
SET CRYSTAL=F:\\Games\\Planeshift
psclient

Replace the directory path\'s with directory where PlaneShift is installed.

Have fun,
