Yliakum - Future
« on: February 28, 2007, 11:02:36 pm »
Does anyone ever wonder what Yliakum would be like in, say, 1000 years from the time now? It'd be interesting to see magic-powered vehicles, and other things that they might come up with. =P

Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be like?

It might possibly have a second level.

I've always enjoyed the prospect. I wonder why people don't do fantasy/sci-fi mixtures more often... (I suppose FFVII was kinda like that)

It's a good idea, really. I'd like to get a glimpse of what Yliakum would be like in more years (not updates and crap like that, I mean actual evolution where the characters inside of Yliakum discovered new things and built new modes of transporation. Stuff like that.)

Watch the flintstones, I bet we could imitate their transportation methods.

Not exactly Yliakum, but an interesting idea of futuristic Settings...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globus_Cassus

Quote
Globus Cassus is a utopian project for the transformation of Planet Earth into a much bigger, hollow, artificial world with an ecosphere on its inner surface. Sunlight would enter through two large windows, gravity would be provided by centrifugal force. Humans would live on two vast regions that face each other and that are connected through the empty center.

====

I would like an idea of an "unsuccesful utopia" or "fallen utopia" or the "fall of Yliakum golden age" with a taste of steampunk.

History and Society: 1750 AY could be in the middle of the 7th or 6th Epoch: The dawn of the Industrial Age and The departure of gods, where Talad, and with some reluctance Laanx, under the advice of Vodul, left the beings on the Yliakum and surroundings to live for themselves. Without a god to keep things on check, the stability would shatter and people would become more and more balkanized based on values and ideas. Without their gods and adding to it the fact most of Stone Labyrinths was "cleansed" during the last thousand years, thus removing the necessity of the people of Yliakum putting aside their differences to defend it. Laanx and Talad worshippers would inevitably enter in some "Holy War"(Probably started by the Laanx ones), the government would start to lose control due to the religious conflict and unity would shatter, each level probably becoming a separate country as the war raged on until settling down on a new much less stable geopolitical state of differing countries with different governments and values. The conflict would never be between races though, as they would be rather united, but instead a "Meme War" between several ideologies, faiths and values. New ideas would emerge, fitting to the dawn of the industrial age.

Tech: Like horses IRL, pterosaurs would become obsolete as means of transportation due to the invention of steam and magic powered  flying machines. The "Grand Elevator" would replace the winch(And be one of the commonly contested areas by the opposition countries), solar collectors would harness the power of the Azure Sun and turn its magic into electricity. Industrial Mass-production of industrial merchandise assisted through magics would be commonplace as the the future great corporations started to born. Medicine would be based on the complete integration between science and the blue and crystal ways of magic. Magic and technology would bend together in great masterpieces of inventiveness. Strangely no one developed a functional vehicle for land yet thus ryunaaks are still commonplace.

Military: There was  never found any substance fully capable of equating to RL gunpowder. Still the crossbow and ballistas slowly evolved to the long range and high precision semi-automatic and magically enhanced "dart rifles" and "flechette cannons". Armor became obsolete as most of modern "darts" and "flechettes" can easily pierce through plate, and the only common types of swords now are rapiers, gauches and sabres among other light melee weapons. Other forms of explosives not relying on gunpowder also exist and are commonly used on warfare, usually as "explosive orbs" from several sizes. The "flying machines" use such for bombardment and some of them have attached smaller versions of the "flechette cannons" on their noses for dogfighting. Naval vessels are now commonly plated by iron and steel and armed with "flechette cannons" and "explosive orb launchers". Walls became obsolete as well due to the new technologies.

I hate spoiling all the fun, but...

This isn't going to be an evolution of the centuries - PlaneShift will forever be a medieval fantasy.

No, seriously... I think that there would be a natural evolution of certain things, when the game becomes more mature (I'm not mean for old people!!  ;D).

I think it could be fun if some features could be added like, magical random portals or Ulbernaut's domestication to pull some carts (like those in Oja) because the world will be bigger and levels will be added, so it must be necesary some sort of vehicles.
Imagine you riding some consumer... Yeee-haaaa!!

I hope to be here to see that evolution...

Well, I know it's never gonna evolve into...laser guns or anything, but I'd just like to know what people think it WOULD be like if it happened. ;P

Laser guns, how original...  I prefer steam and magic powered industrial-age style devices, semi-automatic dart rifles and flechette cannons.

@Volund: I am Grigor comrade! I will bring Novaya Russia to glory!

Do fictional worlds really have to precisely reflect real world history and technology from a certain epoch on the way they are?
