Order of Quests
« on: March 02, 2007, 06:11:58 pm »
As we all know Harnquist is probably the first person you should see for a quest and many new people choose to ask him first. With the current NPC problems there's not much left to do but quest or mine (and of course RP :P)

Yesterday I spoke to a new player who was very interested in PS but was very frustrated, he couldn't go and fight for PP and he knew this and it didn't bother him, instead he was asking what else he should do. I mentioned questing and mining, he then proceeded to tell me he had no mining skill. I told him to ask Harnquist for a quest to help him but it only hindered him as the quest he was given required skill in Metallurgy. I told him to discard and take on another quest and he was given another quest which required skill. I done the only thing left I could think of and gave him the knowledge of how to create a char that would be born with mining skill. He did and he was finally able to do something.

The point i'm trying to make is that if at least Harnquist's quest were in order he may of been able to finish a few simple quests and gain the PP to train his mining, From what I remember he has quite a few simple tasks.

This might be looked into later.

In the meanwhile, instead of discarding, you can reply with "no" to refuse when Harnquist gives you a quest. You can ask a few times until he gives you the quest you're looking for.

Yes, you can reply "No", bust as far as I know there is a way to ensure quest order. It just needs a little tweaking/debugging.

As far as Harny is concerned, I feel he's taken a lot of things upon his head to do, perhaps he should have a helper? What I'm trying to say is that having one NPC involved in 5 or more quests when there are a lot just lying around should probably be looked into.

And Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.

Also maybe a quest could only be activated if you have the required skill for that quest, If I was new and got a quest were I had to find/make something I never could with the skill I had I would wonder why the NPC gave it in the first place. Anyway just a thought...  :)
