I think the death penalty is to weak now. Players should try to keep alive as long as possible.

Whereas I would prefer it where you could just cut your own throat (if you had the nerve) and then travel elsewhere inside the Death Realm. (Although maybe after a while your soul starts to degrade and you become more and more evil or something...)

Why would it make you evil?

I suppose it depends on your definition of evil. Mine would be someone with no conscience and no remorse, who delights in other's torment - i.e. someone who's 'soulless'... (Though having not met someone who lacks a soul, I guess I wouldn't know, but it's just fiction...)

You're throwing around a lot of assumptions.  Since I don't believe in the idea of a soul in any religious sense, I don't have a preconcieved notion of what magic powers it grants so I guess I have a more open mind.  But yeah, you're making assumptions.

As i said early i do like this twist on death... I think losing exp is just a stupid way to deal with it...The death realm perhaps is your souls method of trying to find its way back to your body - if you fail you die.... or put a time limit on it, if you dont get out of the death realm in less than some given amount of time your body loses any chance of being saved and then "permadeath" takes place. Another idea could be that you lose all of your equipment in the area in which you died, you were resuccitated and then have to travel out and get your equipment... if you don't get there in time and someone else finds it they can loot it - it would become free game... just a thought.

I believe it says in the settings somewhere (But I cant be bothered looking for the quote) that when you are sent to the DR your whole body is transported, not just your soul. This would include all weapons and armor the character was carrying at the time of death. I can see some quests being rather difficult if your inventory doesnt follow you :)

Hmm, the only way I could see that as being viable is if we are like the 'chosen ones' of the Gods, and whenever we die they 'intervene' and teleport us to the Death Realm right before we die (and the Death Realm is a place where your soul is like, kept in stasis, so you can't die inside)...

Doesnt have to fit in line with the reality we experience does it?

Why cant this just be the way that the PlaneShift universe functions?

I can imagine a Resident of Yliakum being quite confused over our concept of death (be it non-existance, an after-life or resurrection in something other than ones own body).

This does of course make me wonder what happens when someone dies of old age. Why are there not loads of geriatrics sat in the first room of the DR unable to get out? And also makes me think about the bit in the settings that says that the people of Yliakum have no reverance for corpses and just throw them down the trash chutes.

Keep your eyes peeled: answers to (most of) these questions are coming from the settings department very soon.

Excellent, I will look forward to reading that, I am as confused as everyone else about how it works. It is a breath of fresh air to have such an inventive system for death (being most MMORPG's use the exp loss). I would like to read as to how this fits into the plaeshift world as a whole and in with the setting and stories behind it. Other wise great job devs!

I don't believe in a 'soul' at all in RL but as I found out before in another thread there appearantly is a soul as Talad said that the body and soul travel to the death realm which implies that they are seperate entities.

As for having your inventory, I think it would be totally absurd to suppose that your clothes would go but your sword you were carrying wouldn't. I don't think naked people would sit well with the family fun aspect.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

I totally agree Parallo. I was simply saying if the soul travels to the death realm then the lifeless body (and everything with it would remain) how that works with clothing... well i have no answer for that hehe. I just would like to read an explanation as to how the death realm works in the world of planeshift. They do say there is no regard for corpses and it just seems like there is a piece to the puzzle we havent seen yet.

Is there a complaint here or a philosophical discussion?

efflux it is much easier than you suggest. I found my way out quite easily. That is my complaint.

The difference here is you have played planeshift. I hadn't been on in months and I simply reported what I went through.

I think Xillix means on starting PS the way out is too easy. Not now after knowing the way.
