Crafting from non-metallic sources
« on: March 11, 2007, 12:51:26 am »
I was wondering if it would be possible to be able to craft arms and armor from the severed body parts of creatures.

Case in point, the tefusang's tooth could be used as arrow tips or dirks.  Or the Deadly Ulbernaut Claw, at weight 12, should have enough material to make a short sword or similar weapon.

As for the hides and skin, the obvious usage for leatherworking into armor pieces should be a natural extension of progression.

I'm sure it would be. I don't see what else the 'leather-working' skill would be used for...

And the fact that 'blacksmithing' and '<weapon>-making' skills are separate implies that there are other methods of making weapons than forging metal (otherwise they'd all be lumped together, really)

in future except materials like wood, leather, fur, clay and so on. Things will come as game develop. Only it is pointless adding new materials, while the first arent balanced yet. Because even if we have coal, iron, silver and gold to mine, 99% of people mine gold. It's that obviously simple.

But i give you advice. Don't play in inventing complicated items, like swords for example, without some knowledge first.

What you can failure tommorow, failure today.

** I am aware of this, which is why I was posting to the "Wish List".

Only it is pointless adding new materials, while the first arent balanced yet.
**It is never pointless to investigate new avenues or tracks of thought.  Game balance is an ongoing process, so waiting for object A to be balanced before even discussing object B would have a high probability of creating additional work for the Devs.  It is apparent to me that the Wish List is here to help let the Devs know what the players are looking for, so they can adapt the growth of the game.

Because even if we have coal, iron, silver and gold to mine, 99% of people mine gold. It's that obviously simple.
** People mine gold because it has a quick turnaround of their time investment.  That is the simple part.

But i give you advice. Don't play in inventing complicated items, like swords for example, without some knowledge first.
** What knowledge are you speaking about?  Last time I checked, while actual swordcrafting would take a team of skilled craftsmen weeks if not months to forge combat ready blades, simple weapons could be crafted quickly using bone, wood, stone, and other components.  While these more primative weapons would not have the resilience of cast or alloyed metals, they were effective in their designed tasks.

Ok, its the 1% from the 99% of people mining gold only...

And what did i write?

And i have no idea why some crafter would do not really sharp sword from bone, which gets completly broken after cracking into two parts. Especially that he can do steel sword instead. Just like people stopped making swords when guns were invented.

Who says the bones of an ulbernaut isn't stronger, lighter and more efficient than steel?
