Blacksmithing - was "that" the plan ?
« on: March 15, 2007, 11:19:59 pm »
tester first - player second ... well

I tested blacksmithing, especially the way to reach the next level.

You should meanwhile know me as a friend of statistics ... and guess what I did.

It takes about 200 "Takes" at the Anvil to move from Level 12 to Level 13.

Let's see what 200 Takes mean - example: Dagger crafting

you need 1200 steel stock

you need 9600 iron ore

you need 2400 coal lump

what does that mean ?

900 hours of work for the stock !

50 hours of work to craft the 200 daggers (that are of no use at this level)

I wonder, if that was the plan by balancing the blacksmithing !?

---

Sure, I know it can be done in a few hours ... sure sure ... but explain how to RP an Blacksmith that is heating, hammering, heating, hammering the same two steel stock for over 6 hours ...

Just my two Tria ...

yeah... it feels about right given that it can take about that long to make a sword.
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.
hardly because the shadow built the lexx.
the shadow will frighten laanx from my path.

The practice points given for the blacksmith have not changed in almost a year.  So, yes a year ago that was the plan.  But what has changed recently is more trainers so now you can actually train up and less quality for unskilled characters so it is worth doing so.

Within the next month we hope to introduce some other blacksmith tasks that will give you better practice then just making knives.  In the mean time we will continue to try to get the correct balance between requiring years of labor and master smiths in a month.

well, okay ... thank you

This sounds like a plan !

It wasn't my intention to complain about it, I was just anxious if my observations were, what the Dev's had expected it to be.
