i know that this has be talked about 72 times, but dosent that show a problem? Too be honest i dont think people should -have- to sift through dozens of players to find someone to rp with. Im certain many agree with me

It depends who you're trying to RP with to be honest. I've had days when I can't get any RP going and days when you can't get away from it. I'd say the most important thing is knowing your audience, having been round a year I pretty much know who will interact with any RP I offer and those who won't. Like I said I have days when I wonder were the RP has gone but suddenly i'll be forced to eat my words as I find someone to RP with. Knowing where most RP's happen is always handy to know. The tavern is a good start and you'll pretty much always find someone round Harnquist as long as you try and don't mind the OOC noob questions that frequent round the smith.

If you are lacking in RP, grab the nearest lost newbie who seems promising (or even not), and roleplay showing them around the city, point out the dangers, and keep in character while doing it. Perhaps, if they catch on, you will have started a new RPer  on his/her path without even knowing it.

I find RP where ever I go, but that is because I bring it with me. :)

I understand what your saying in that thread, maybe the game should censor smilies? RP Nazi or not, it is an RP game isnt it?

Yes, this is supposed to be an RP game. However, (I have also been implementor in an italian MUD for a couple of years) finding a common definition for what RP is and how to enforce it is extremely hard.

PS as such has, differently from similar games, a decent amount of players who attempt to do some RP, however, the game structure is not promoting it at all (imho) and there is not any serious "police" cleaning up the mess of not doing RP.
Brackets or not, it is also hard to control who says anything and check it out.
When I was implementor of the MUD it was extremely hard to check all the dialogues. I was often spending some time scanning the logs for bad words and often I had to "spy" on players. It was not pleasant, but it was the only way to be semi sure that some sort of atmosphere was respected. It could be good here, to create at least an alternative "NOT RP" channel in game, where people can express their throught without ruining the generic atmosphere.
But, then, it is up the the planners to steer the game toward a certain direction.

Exactly. I've proposed that a long time a go, an OOC channel/tab. But the response I got was something along the lines of "We can't have an OOC tab because that will encourage OOC conversations while they should be close to non-existant." I did understand what the person meant, and it would make sense if there was some kind of police making sure people were indeed roleplaying and not using the main chat for OOC conversations. Unfortunely no such thing exists yet and we're left with a chaotic main chat that mixes both OOC and IC conversations, because people don't have to care if they roleplay or not.

Planeshift is not, however, lacking roleplay. I know plenty of good roleplayers, and plenty of bad roleplayers as well. But the number of people who refuse to roleplay is getting smaller. I guess that's good.

This is something required in every roleplayer.
Disclaimer: This is my opinion and I can be reasoned with. I'm probably right, though.
