Error opening file for reading
« on: April 05, 2007, 04:46:23 am »
Recently I needed to uninstall ps, as frankly it wouldn't open, at all, but when I tried to reinstall I got the message error opening file for reading, it gave me three options, abort, ignore, and retry... Retry did nothing, aobrt closes setup, and ignoring the problem and the various other identical messages that appear afterwards does install planeshift, but none the less it still wont run after clicking on it.

So I come here with my problem, any suggestions?

Are you sure the download itself is fully functional? Perhaps try redownloading from a different mirror, or BitTorrent.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Well when I download from bittorrent ps wont download... Having rutton luck with the mirrors, to be frank.

Any idea why bitorrent wouldn't be able to download ps, despite my firewall not blocking it?

doesn't seem any of the mirrors will install correctly

If I recall correctly the announcer stopped working at some point... maybe that is making it hard for your bittorrent client to find sources to download the game from.

Which client are you using?

You could try microtorrent, or bitcomet. They both have trackless support, so they might be of use for you, if the server that acts as announcer is still down.

Visit their websites:

www.utorrent.com

and

www.bitcomet.com

and get the one you like the most.

Having read your first message:

Are you sure you did not have any other programs running in the background that could have caused issues during installation?
Is your computer using different users, and you logged without having rights to install things?
Did you try rebooting the system and installing the game anew?

The PS install file, for Windows OS, should be 243.916.265 bytes size.

Thank you for this helpful advice!  :D

However it is to my displeasure to say that it seems it did not help, I have been having computer troubles of late, and thus believe that to be a major factor of the problem, I have yet to try one more thing though... I'll edit this post later with the results.

Thanks for the aid guys.  :)
