56k
« on: March 10, 2003, 06:19:34 am »
I hope you guy (the PLaneshift Team) can make the game availible for 56k players to play. Becasue I have a new computer, 512 ram, 3.0 ghz and geforce 4 ti 4200 graphics card, the lag is a little better for me. But for those 56k players out there, this fun game should also be availible for them!

You just have to realize that the 56k modem is a little...old.
I think it would be better if the DEVs aimed for the future and not for the past ;)

Yes, you\'re right of course *remembers his 56k modem* on the other hand, PS is far from done, so our modem-friends have plenty of time to upgrade :D
Seriously I don\'t think it\'s possible to play a MMORPG on a 56k modem (well, at least not satisfying) ;)

You know how fast I would get a faster connection if the idiots ever decided it to put it where I live?  The first day it was available...

So making it unavailable to people who use 56k would just be stupid, losing many people...

Although i\'ve only really played one MMORPG it worked just fine (except for those damn disconnections :P )

Personally, I think the lag you are talking about here is video lag, and has nothing at all to do with the connection. I don\'t really think it would be possible to make the game available to only broadband people and not for the 56k people too. I also know what it is like to live where there is no broadband available, although I have it now, it wasn\'t available where I used to live. Don\'t worry if you have 56k, I\'m almost positive that you\'d be able to connect, even if the gameworlds quality was increased 10x what it is now. It doesn\'t take much of a connection to \'play\' an mmorpg, I knew people with 28k dialup connections who played everquest all the time. Sure there is lag when you play an mmorpg on dialup, but then again, what can you do on dialup without lagging? Not a whole lot.

With all that said, keep up the commitment 56k users. Your input is just as important as anyone elses.  :D

People need to learn that broadband isn\'t available everywhere. Atleast half the people online I\'ve told I have 56k make a comment that I need to stop being cheap and pay for broadband. I\'m not giving up living in a big house to move into a little house in the city that costs more, just for cable.

I suggest Plane Shift TEam make PS able to run on 56k if they want some Australians playing cause thanks to one company called Telstra X(  down here broadband is really expensive and to make it broadband only would make more than just a few Australians un happy

Exactly kyp14, I\'m Australian too (Tasmanian infact) and not only is it outrageously expensive, theres a cap on how much information you can send and receive which something like Planeshift would be doing alot of, and so, if you did fork out all that money for broadband you\'d only be able to play Planeshift for a limited time before they start charging you interest for going over the download cap.

Grr, Telstra have a monopoly and they\'re not afraid to take advantage of it...

Well, i believe they will think of the slow connections out there.
Just look at the download page, they\'ve cut up the download into 5 parts. They did this for the simple reason that there are people out there who can\'t download it all in one go. So that\'s one sign that they are deffinetly thinking of the \'slower\' people out there.

Well I don\'t think it works through a 56k modem because I downloaded it and installed it and then created my character, hit upload, and nothing.

I checked the server address and everything, so either it doesn\'t work through 56k or I need to file a bug report :)

well i don\'t believe that has anything to do with your 56k modem. It\'s probably because this is not the final game, so there are many bugs still to work out.

Many people are using modems to play PS.  Your problem is not related to that.  Have you tried it again since the first time it didn\'t work?

I\'ve tried it several times.

Once it started up after I hit upload and it said stuff like loading textures etc, and when it got to loading world my computer informed me that \"system memory is dangerously low.\" and then told me that Planeshift is not responding and should be quited to free up more memory.

Also when I start Planeshift and then click connect it says that the server name is unresolved without even trying to connect, and if I enter something different in (like say planeshift.com) it tryings to connect and then says that theres no such server (which is far enough, at least it looked for one).

When I create a character and hit upload I don\'t get the unresolved error for connecting to planeshift.fragnetics.com, it doesn\'t even try to send any information.
