I can't play because of the lag/freezing.
« on: April 15, 2007, 09:36:31 pm »
I have only had PS for a couple days now and so far it has frozen on me at least 10 times. I can walk around for a little while, but it gets slower and slower until the program freezes and I have to shut it down. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I can't get anything done at this point.

Can you tell us what hardware your computer has? :) It will help us better determine the proper steps to take. If you're on Windows:

Right-click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties. In the General tab you will see your processor and RAM amount. It will be in this format:

For your graphics card, type dxdiag into the Windows Run command and look at the Display tab:

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Looks like your graphics come from an onboard chipset rather than an actual video card. Have you tried updating the drivers from ATI?

Here's my advice: when or if you already have the dough for it, get an off-board video card to avoid headaches. Most on-board cards suck and are prone to several problems. Also if you're running Linux, unfortunately ATI Linux drivers are pretty inferior to the Windows' ones.

Linux proprietary drivers are generally inferior to the Windows ones.
However Nvidia drivers are better than the Ati ones, though Ati has been improving lately.

I haven't tried that. I'm not sure how to do it. I'm not all that great with computers and I've had this one for only about a month. Can you tell me what to do please?

^That was to Karyuu, btw.

I have Windows XP though, for the record.
