Ilustration for InGame book
« on: April 21, 2007, 10:29:18 pm »
Lately I felt I need to make a better version of my interpretation of Jayose's library book Yliakum Geography. It was somewhat challanging, to make it looking clear and informative at the same time, while it would be good to make it in some arty style too ;)
It is mostly work on vectors to have an option for future edits, since i can move the keypoints around and change the size, color and kind of the line without problems.

For all who love schematics, I present:

And for people who like a bit of math, examine this

Too bad someone made mistake writing the book and the inner circumference for both levels most likely isn't valid and thus levels won't be that mountainous as each level would be part of a cone (avarage! coz you can expect many cliffs this way). But i gues we all used to a life on flat land too ;P. I'm still dreaming the levels are cone-like, with much lower angle, but enough for interesting cliffs from time to time on the surface of each levels ;)

What you can failure tommorow, failure today.

Wow,you should create a guild called Nerds of Yliakum (just joke. no offence). But there should be this type of books. There must be sth left after Xacha scientists.

I dont really understand it, possibaly more written labels so we can see exactly what repersents what without just assuming? It looks like the roof of the second level is bigger than the floor of the first, is that right?

You made a good assumption ! The inner circumferences and thus diameteres of both levels are exactly the same. The second level is straight under the first.
But don't worry about the light not reaching it, from the azure sun. It is located like 10km above the point B and first level don't cover its light from reaching second level.
Also about points G and M, they are there only for calculation purposes, as they form cones, which part are the levels. So lines coming from it, don't really form any material object.
Material edges of the Yliakum are |ADHK| and on the other side |CFJL|.
This should help a bit.

And yeah, books need illustrations, but what i did would still need to be processed through some filters and stuff, so that it would look like made by eg. pencil

Don't forget the "Jocks of Yliakum" for all those powerlevelled duellers too...  :whistling:
* Raleigh watches the drawing
* Raleigh shrugs, he hates math, specially formulas and geometry

I  think it would be more appropriate: "Math Geeks of Yliakum" ;P

Still, well done, even though I am not willing to analyze on whether these calculations are correct or not(and neither I know I if could). When I play games I usually prefer to forget about this stuff...

That's 8th grade geometry, nothing complicated in there. Still the drawing is probably best if left in its original simplistic state.... too many colours right now. Dotted lines should do the trick.

As for the effort, thanks! I'd love to see math riddles in there, or even what the Xacha scholars have to say about Yliakum. After all, you can read the book... or not read the book if you don't like the idea.
To see the world in a grain of sand
And Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.
