Inventions
« on: March 11, 2003, 02:02:23 am »
Well, as I was wandering the house at 3am because I was not able to sleep, this popped into my brain...so yea

Anyways, if any of you have played Dark Cloud 2 they have this really cool invention system where you take 3 pictures of something and if they match up right you invent something new then you have to find the supplies to make them.

I\'m thinking a system like this could be useful to each job in the game.  Such as blacksmiths, say they take a certain type of metal along with some other components and then try and put them together.  This, of course, will often fail as not everything works.  But every now and then they will find a combo that works, thus creating a new type of weapon.

This will give exploration a little bit more of a meaning than just to see the world and fight off monsters, since it can work in any profession (baker, alchemy, etc.)

And some items should be really rare and cannot be sold to shops but only traded between other people (making them even less likely to be found)

That would be fun, it would pretty much open up a whole new area of work in Planeshift. I\'d also like to see invention that you could say, put on your firmiliar etc.

Oh, and hey, looks like you\'ve almost got 1,000 posts there. Contrats  :)

This could be cool. You could make differant saddles and stuff from differant animal leathers (I want cat leather armour, just to make my cat loving sister angry). This reminds me of the baking system in Paper Mario. You could combine 2 items into one so you didn\'t waste turns, but if the food didn\'t mix, it would make \"Mistake\" which was a waste of space.

I like this idea too, it could give you something to do when you get tired of doing the other stuff mentioned (killing, working, meeting with guild, etc). Nice idea to share Kiern. Hopefully it will be put into the game eventually.  :D

Plus it would add depth to the game. You could buy common weapons and food, but the people who actually looked for differant stuff would end up with the good stuff. One could spend months just trying to make interesting meals.

I\'m supporting this idea. The game would become more unique and interesting to play.
It would also introduce a new occupation; \"inventor\".
A player could hold the \"recipes\" he invented secret, so you had to buy the item from that player (until someone discovered the recipe)

Good Post
I have mentioned this on other RPG/MMorpg`s as well It would be Great to actually see something like this.

Allso would Like to see arm, weap, ect that are not all the same..

Other words A sword is not a sword no sword is exactly the same as another sword.

Sounds a little bit like Diablo to me:

Add a jewel to your items to power them up, like, say, a ruby adds firedamage to a weapon or gives you more health when merged with an armor.

Sort of. You could almost do the same thing in Paper Mario. If you mixed an Ultra Shroom with Maple Syrup you would get an ultra syrup whcihc used the effets of both items in one turn (trun-based combat).

In EQ, you have to but a kit to put the items in and click a combine button, but the same items could work or fail depending on youy exp. for that skill, also they sell word that thells you what is needed.

Eventually, all the diferent \"recipes\" would be learned and it would all be out in the open.  This means it would only be really interesting for the first maybe year of the game or for hermit players who don\'t talk to anyone else and prefer to figure it out for themself.

This is a bit off topic, but I got the idea from this board, so... I think it would be cool if you could get blank pieces of paper and write on them. Then you could give it to another player to tell them when to meet you or keep it as a reminder. You could also write rare recipes down and sell them to other players. Of course you could also just lie and get a bunch of money. But seeing as there are these boards, you could easily get a reputation and people would stop trusting you and kill you for the fun of it....
You are here,
You will always be here,
You will never be there.
Although you may strive to get there,
upon reaching there you will realize you are really here.
And there is everywhere else.

My gaming experience tells, that anyone who finds out a cool combination of items/stuff considers himself as someone real cool, who has found out something, those \"loosy N00Bs\" haven\'t and - be assured of this one - he won\'t tell, as he is no \"N00B\" anymore...

So don\'t worry about this one :)
