Welcome to PlaneShift and the boards :)

We have somewhere around 200-300 players who sign on regularly, with many more coming and going. The reason the number is pretty low, is that PlaneShift is a game in open development. We're only at version 0.3 at the moment, so not all features are implemented, and we're always fixing bugs as well as adding new content. It can be a test of patience sometimes, but everyone who has stuck around will say that it's worth it. Our community can be pretty nice.

PlaneShift is oriented primarily towards roleplay, so you are encouraged to act as your character would in the game and not as you the player. PvP is done by challenge and acceptance - you cannot attack anyone if they do not agree to your challenge, but in a guild war (where the two leaders of the guilds agree) members of those guilds can attack each other without any further confirmations.

Our Settings team is really wonderful at producing a ton of content all the time - we have a lot of quests, but the NPC communication system may be a bit unusual. You don't get a list of choices to say to an NPC, but rather type sentences and phrases to them that they then react to. The system isn't very advanced yet, so it might be frustrating every now and then. But, we're improving all the time :)

As for the number of monsters, I can give you an exact number right now: 10 ;) We have three texture variations for each however, so that brings it up to 30 (many of these textures are going to be seen in-game in the next release, coming very shortly). The number is lower than I'd like, but because we're a hobby project and this is done entirely in our free time, and our team is pretty small, we make do as best as we can. Sometimes we don't get as many artists on the team who can help our world expand. Still, there is progress in every department. There are no boss monsters so far, and you can group to fight a monster.

When it comes to the size of the world, we have two cities (not fully completed yet but pretty large), several wilderness maps, a Death Realm, and a Bronze Doors fortress :) You can check out the screenshots on the main page to get a glimpse. People usually spend their time roleplaying, fighting, mining, crafting, and questing. Those are the main activities available at this time

We don't have a class or profession-based system, but rather skill-based. You train whatever skills you want, in whatever order or arrangement, so your character can really be anything he or she wants. As for races, we have 12 - not all models are finished right now, so some races will share the same one. This will be fixed as soon as we kidnap some more talented artists onto the team.

All the information I have given is already out there - try looking around if you have further questions. For example we have a stickied Gameplay FAQ, a whole section for Guides and Tutorials, and of course the main website.

We look forward to seeing your thoughts on the game and your virtual life within it as we move along :)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

1.) How big is the community?  Big enough that there will be people who you like less then others.  Big enough that there are better and worse players.  Not gigantic, however, meaning that really well known players are really well known players, they aren't just well known among certain circles.  As Karyuu says, it can be nice.  (or it can be mean)
2.) How good is the game?  I believe the term is 'uber', especially if you can roleplay.
3.) Is there pvp?  Some.  There's a pvp room and dueling, but you should have a in character reason for doing either of those.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, head ye over to the newbie forum and read the guides on roleplay.
4.) How good are the quests if any?  There's over 100 quests, and they're fun, although the NPC system can be a little bit frustrating.  Just a little bit.  It takes a bit of learning, and once they get all the quests on the same wavelength, it should be easier (if they haven't done that already, of course).
5.) How many differant monsters are there?  A good number, although not a huge number.  The worst monsters, of course, are the other players themselves when they play evil characters :P
6.) Are there any bosses?  Well.... Laanx, the server, is the uber boss.  You  manage to crash him (not through exploiting a bug), and you "win".  Of course, he crashes often enough that there's lots of "winners" and nobody ever loses... Talad is another boss, and the head honcho.  Each of the Devs, of course, can be a boss in their own right, and so can most gms.  Of course, they have to have set themselves up as a boss, and you have to have an IC reason for killing them :P
7.) Is it group involving?  Very much so, if you don't want it to be boring.
8.) How big is the map?  There's numerous areas, and right now it has very little of the final thing completed and takes ~15 minutes to get from one side to the other (BD to Oja or back, and iirc) without extra potions for energy (allows running, which is how most people get around).
9.) Is there lots to do? Yes.  Infact, if your imagination is good, the number of things you can do reaches towards infinity, as long as you stay within the settings.  And much more on the way as far as the actual game goes, too.
10.) Are there proffesions? If so how many?  No specific professions, although many choose to take up one or another, such as metallurgy or the like.  Mining is a favorite too.
11.) How many classes?  No specific "classes", each person has equal opportunity for any given skill.
12.) How many races?  Read the guide, as I can't remember the number off the top of my head and that's good knowledge to have anyways... hmm.... *counts off on his fingers* 12 or so, if I'm not missing anything...

Now my, personal opinion based, answers(Hopefully not obsolete):

1)  How big is the community?
A: Not very large, but for example, it is better to have 10 roleplayers than 10000000 farmers, PKers and KSers, it has much more quality than the communities of most of MMO(RP?)Gs.

2) How good is the game?
A: Depends if you consider the game as an individual entity or as the combination of both it and the community. If you review it individually, I can asure you: it sucks(And that is expected from its stage of development)! Now if you consider the community as part of the game, then it's a good one for a more long-term approach on gameplay.

3) Is there pvp?
A: Yes, but you need the consent of the other one you want to enter in combat with. In any case, I think you should try a MMOFPS or FPS with Multiplayer if you want primarily a PvP experience that is really immersive and not a boring clicking and pressing of buttons that let the game handle the whole combat instead of you(the weakness of most RPGs).

4) How good are the quests if any?
A: Player and GM based "quests" based on events are usually fairly decent, but due to certain flaws on the capability of NPCs to understand you, NPC quests usually suck as they become games of guessing words.

5) How many differant monsters are there?
A: If you just want to "Kill stuff", there are much more entertaining options than Planeshift, combat here isn't a strong point.

6) Are there any bosses?
A: Planeshift doesn't need to follow a cliche from old arcade games of the beaten idea of having "bosses", so the answer is probably no

7) Is it group involving?
A: "Roleplaying" with NPCs is boring as hell, so I can asure you, yes.

8) How big is the map?
A: Too big for me, I would rather to see it smaller until they implemented ryunaaks and pterosaurs, but there is lots to explore, not much to interact though.

9)  Is there lots to do?
A: Gameplay-wise, not much interesting(read: treadmilling)... Roleplay-wise, Yes

10, 11) Professions and Classes?
A: No, it's planned to be flexible so you won't have to follow stereotypes of characters and will be able to have a fighter that is a skilled alchemist, or a character that is a magician and scientist at the same time.

12)How many races?
A: http://www.planeshift.it/races.html

You'll spend nothing but time on planeshift, of which we all have more than we need, so dip right in and find out what its like yourself.
Hide where they expect you to... Its what they least expect.

1.) How big is the community?
Just over hndred on at one time in general I think.

2.) How good is the game?
Depends on what you wnt. If you want WoW style games, then you probably wont like planeshift. PS is a Roleplaying game, constatly expanding and in early development. You might just want to stick around to watch the world grow.

3.) Is there pvp?
There is, but its not really worth mentioning.

4.) How good are the quests if any?
There are about a hundred or so quests and they are pretty cool.

5.) How many differant monsters are there?
Ther are quite a few, the monsters have varying levels of difficultinside themselves aswell. For instance you may find a Tefusang that you can kill, move on to another place pick a fight with another Tefusang and find that its just kicked yoiur merry little arse to the ground.

6.) Are there any bosses?
Bosses? As in Mods? or what? As far NPC's go there is the Ulbernaught, big scary MoFo you dnt wana mess around with until your very powerful.

7.) Is it group involving?
Role Playing generally needs a group. There are Events and things on certain holidays and such, you have mass events where all players go, you have people celebrating each iothers birthday. it can be pretty cool somtimes.

8.) How big is the map?
The world is split into a few maps and expands with the player base,  at the moment it takes  a decent amount of time to Get from one end of the world to the other.

9.) Is there lots to do?
There is a decent amount, trying to do all the quests, you can mine, blacksmith though RolePlaying will probably take most of the time.

10.) Are there proffesions? If so how many?
Proffessions? You mean like starting classes? No. You  create your character and choose from alist of strengths and past life experiances which will give your character some edge whe you first start.

11.) How many classes?
Above.

12.) How many races?
There are alot of Races however a decent amount of them havnt been implemented yet due to lack of people on the team that have time to model and unwrap and texture a full character model, then its gotta go through Talad who has the final word, you then have to animate and do all sorts of toher stuff, its a lengthy process. At the moment there are five or six Races Impemented.
