Help with drawing needed.
« on: May 12, 2007, 09:02:43 am »
Hey i always look over the fan art area and find amazing stuff here.sadly i didnt find any manga or anime style drawings.Right now im drawing one for a project in school and i was wondering if anyone here knew about how to draw them.
(Oh and a tip to starters manga style faces are a lot easyer)
Also i was wondering if its posible for some of the artists here to make a tutorial on drawing faces (3 people come to mind.Gentar Farren and the infamous Karyu). It could realy help some poeople like me who still have serious problem with drawing faces from the front or drawing more anatomicaly correct creatures and armor designs. In fact ANY help whatsoever would be apreciated.

Hi there, you should have a look in the Unofficial fan-art project images, Xythe has done some amazing manga style drawings. As for tutorials, try googling a little, I've found many drawing tutorials around, you just have to look. If I get a chance I'll post some links later.

Good Luck!

I would highly suggest that you stay away from the anime/manga style if you are learning how to draw. It can look stunning if done right, but it's often badly overdone and doing it right is a real challenge (especially if you're just beginning). In an art school, no one will take you seriously if you concentrate on anime. If you're doing this just for yourself and you've no desires to pursue something art-related, knock yourself out. But otherwise do consider my words.

There are many drawing tutorials online, so I doubt I'll be making one for basic drawing. Eliseth already provided links to some, so I'll follow in the same vein.

Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

You want to learn how to draw.
Then Do Not Start off drawing manga. Simple as that.  Look at anatomical drawings and other referances of semi realistic pictures. Too often people start of trying to draw manga stuff and never progress beyond a certain level of skill, it ends  up being pages and pages and pages of  annoying chibi's. Good manga relies heavily on shadow, shading and style, not just the  line adrawings that so many people who "draw manga" come ut with.

Sorry thats my  persuasive rant  because I do get sick of lots of people just drawing stupid amounts of chubi's, getting mixed up between Manga and Anime, and generally  following a huge trend without the ability to do it well.

Actualy i usualy draw more anatomicaly correct people(or try to anyway)but my art teacher said i should try more difrent styles and gave me a week to get a full manga style character done.Sometimes he gives me stuff that sounds stupid but in the end helps me draw better. In fact its thanks to him i came as far as i did in a year(from sticks to profiles and poses of humans).
And thanks for the tutorials still havent seen or tried all of them.

PS: forgot to mention it but theres a 40$ betting pool already on whether i make the deadline ;D.Everyones counting on me to lose since i suck at manga drawing.Still its kinda easy to learn.
