Quest issue
« on: June 02, 2007, 05:23:56 pm »
I got a quest from Lorytia Starhammer long ago, after leaving it be I decided to complete it .. without much difficulty until I got to a point where I was stuck. I searched a lot and eventually asked help from those who completed the quest already. Problem was what they told me to do/say didn't work still. Since there is no other quest involving Lorytia on my book I knew this wasn't a conflicting quests issue. So I just waited around until we could discard quests again and discarded it as soon as we could, a few weeks back.

I heard that once-in-a-lifetime quests still couldn't be discarded so there was no issue. Then I went back to there to get my quest again and complete it right this time .. but nothing yet. So I wait, go to try again every few days for a couple weeks, sometimes waiting around for an hour or so, but still nothing. Now I'm starting to consider the possibility of my character still being bugged regarding this specific NPC. With an alt I had no trouble getting the quest again, nor do I have any trouble with other NPCs.

Is it possible that I'm out of luck and this quest just has a long lockout timer or could I really be experiencing a bug here?

Many quests ingame have a life time lockout on them. This means that if this quest is one of them you will never get it back again.

Last I heard there were only a handful of quests with a lifetime lockout .. and we could assume that those were not-discardable ... are these assumptions wrong then?

For a quest to access the Winch I had to wait a month because of a lockout, how long have you been waiting?

About two weeks now. Guess I'll wait a bit longer then.

More than a handful. That's all I'm saying.

Could someone explain to me why there is no published list of quests that are broken or "lifetime lockout".  Conflicts regarding quests are a chief source of problems for many in the planeshift community.  Difficulties could be avoided, and frankly, I see no difference between a list of this nature, and a list of skills that cannot be trained.  I think any warning would be far from a "cheat".  Just my take.

Just a question that's probably been asked thousands of times  :-[

Why the lifetime lockout? Bug?

It is because others complained that it does not make sense that you could do certain quests over and over again, and get a huge reward each time :)

As far as i know Talad considers this a spoiler and I think the devs would not like a list that would make players not have to search to find the info, they work very hard to make these quests. A list would mean you see quest xxxx is hungy and instantly you know they give that quest and maybe the list might list 5 or more other quests they also give that takes a lot of fun out of finding quests for players [just an example]. Also to keep up a list of broken quests would be very hard as the devs try to fix the broken quests each day if they have time so it would be outdated as soon as it is made. Even if we had a list of quests that would not fix the problem with conflicting quests as it would not tell you who is needed in the quests so it would be useless in that respect. The reason a list of skills that cant be used is not considered a spoiler is because it takes not only progression points but trias that take a lot of work to get and would be a waste to spend on skills you cant train when you dont have a lot. With quests most of them dont require items like that at the start to get them. [some quests dont even cost you anything other then time and energy]

I don't think an actual list is needed but just a bit of leniancy towards topics like this. I'm in a situation that is starting to get a bit frustrating .. especially because I don't know what exactly is wrong.

I agree with having quests that can only be completed once .. but discarding such a quest should not count as completing it. It's not that hard to just code that when the quest is actually completed the lockout is activated, but when it has to be discarded .. due to a bug or slip up of the player .. this shouldn't activate the lockout at all. Instead you should be able to approach the NPC involved and ask to pick your work for them back up. (aka: get the quest again without a hassle .. since you already earned it previously) To prevent exploiters from accepting and discarding quests to stock up on items that are gotten halfway through certain quests, it could be made that by discarding a quest all items gotten during that quest disappear.

Settings and engine have been discussing this for a while, actually. You may find it sometime in the future. However, we not only have to consider items given mid-quest, but experience and faction points as well.

I definitely agree with Zan. There was a certain quest that was bugged where the person wouldn't accept an item. Unfortunately I can't create another character to resume it seeing as it is in an area that is too hard to get in. It would be nice to just discard it and start over.

I'm very glad to hear that Jeraphon .. yeah I realize it is probably harder than I make it sound but I'm certain that our skilled Dev team can pull it off ;D

If this quest is something to do with some equipment going missing, then I believe this quest is still broken, since most all people in my guild with that quest, still can not continue on it.  Starting the quest from scratch would have you stuck in the same spot.  None of us have discarded the quest, just waiting patiently until it is fixed, and trying it every week or so again to check if it has been fixed yet.

As for the original post, you may not have had another quest with Lorytia in it, but what about another quest with someone else that is involved in Lorytia's quest, that can cause conflicts as well.
