How'd the auction go?

It went fine. Over one million tria and lots of items exchanged hands. The only problem was that the food didn't last for long

Is it roleplay, if your char selly chainmail pants for 80k tria and one day or even some hours later everybody can buy them from a NPC for much less money? In my opinion this is not honest from you as player.
You knew about the fact that the pants will be available next day but not you char. So you used your ooc knowledge to get rich IC.

That's no roleplay!
And don't say it was luck for you. You did the same already before with other items.

If you like to play an evil char do it! It's interesting for all. But don't take advantage of your ooc knowledge for your char in this way that other players get an detriment! That's not fair.]

But sadly, unlike in real world, where making money is not so trivial as having mine skill level 9, buying a rockpick and typing /dig gold, most people from Yliakum don't take account of the way their characters should behave in a realistic economy and buy things with skyrocketed prices because they can only be obtained from a quest they don't know about or have too many exotic keywords to be inputted to NPCs understand you, or because they are rare loots. The blame is from both sides on its unrealistic implications. But it is useless to argue about it, because on the way things are: there is no realistic economy in the game. The people who bought these things for so absurd prices should have thinked that their characters, unless if they were completely insane(they would probably be broken then), wouldn't accept such prices and the auction would not attract so many people unless the prices were lowered.  ]

(I think that people should stop blaming Donari for selling goods at high costs, seen it too much sadly .. she only offers the basic services and on top of that she even uses an auction method. This means that the price you pay for an item is completely determined by the buyers. Donari herself starts by offering every item at 1 tria.

I admit I've seen insane amounts of money given out to items which were worth a lot less but I've also seen very nice weaponry go away for half the price Harnquist would pay for it. This is the beauty of an auction .. if you're the only one interested in an item it will be very cheap, if more are interested .. well the highest buyer wins of course. But do not blame the merchant for the prices, blame your fellow buyers!

Besides it's a free market so people can ask whatever they want .. the buyers are the ones who control the prices, not the sellers.

By the way I've been there the entire auction and do not recall Donari selling any chain mail pants whatsoever so these posts are utterly out of topic.)

[@Zan: I think you don't understand me. I don't talk about the char Donari, I talk about the player. There is a difference!
I don't argue about the fact that stuff was sold for high prices. The issue is about using of no roleplay methods. The char Donari, or other chars which sold their chainmail boots and gloves the last days sold them only because the players knew that this items will be buyable a few day later for much less money. So the question is: Is that roleplaying? The char behaves by means of the technical knowledge of the player. Where is the difference to bugusing? I can tell you: If you use a bug in most of the cases no other player or char suffers from though in this case.
In my opinion this is cheating!]

It was a full scale roleplaying event. People had a chance to hand items they wanted to be sold over to Donari weeks before, there was food provided, guards were posted on duty to make sure everything happened peacefully and a speech or two were even given. Most of the participants also chatted with eachother, met up with others, etc.

Believe me this was organised as a roleplaying event and it was played out as one. You may be confusing this with those people that just head over to harnquist and shout out what they have in the auction channel.

As for your accusation of cheating, I'm not sure where you got all this but none of it happened at the Golden Coin. If you were a victim of this cheating then that's a shame but please do not work your frustrations out where they do not belong. The Complaint forum should be where this goes .. not the Roleplaying forum.)

First of all, like Zan mentioned already, the Golden Tria was an auction involving much RP. And yes, it is roleplay if Donari does so (Not admitting that she did sell chainmail). Donari is a merchant, and when she sells something it has RP involved. If for example a fighter who uses chainmail in daily battle would suddenly sell all of his things off, that would be something entirely different. Next, as Zan already said ( ), Donari doesn't sell stuff, she auctions it. The price is determined by the buyer. Another thing that confuses me is your definition of an evil character. What has selling items to do with being evil? You can't put everything in two categories, there are many things inbetween. The last thing I have to say to that post is that everyone uses OOC knowledge for getting rich. The way your character behaves, the knowledge of talking, that is completly OOC. Who says your character can do this?
The answer is simple, you RP your character in a certain way, so everything he does is justified on the way you RP him. I don't see what using OOC knowledge has got to do with the attitude of a character. One of my other characters, Sheryl Sandre, is a banker. His services are available to everyone at low prices and I used my knowledge on banking to RP him, so, according to your definition, he would be evil.

Now to your second post. You define bugusing and cheating as gaining an advantage over another character. Let's take a look at RL. There is always someone better then you (Not in my case though ). But hey, they worked hard and deserve their success. IC, it isn't much different from RL. There are other characters better then your characters and you can not prevent it. Bugusing and cheating are something entirely different, it is defined as abusing a loophole in the game mechanics to gain an advantage over other characters. I do not see your point why auctioning items at high prices should be bugusing,
Maybe I missed something? Could a Dev report on that? I am not sure wether using the auction channel and roleplaying in it are bugusing or not, after all the auction channel shouldn't exist, and all those using it will get banned. I really don't get the point of your post Bepules, and, as Zan already mentioned (*banging head against wall smiley is missing*), if you wish to criticize the current economy, post it in the complaint forum. And just a hint, next time be present at an event if you wish to criticize it.]

[Maybe I was not correct in all points. My char wasn't at the auction but two other players said to me that there was sold a chainmail pants. I agree that the Golden Coin was a roleplay event. As I know Donari it was well organisated and there was a lot of RP in it. If it is right that there were not auctionated these pants, gloves or boots I excuse me for blaming you.
But the problem I actually liked to complain about still exists.

Besides I didn't said that Donari is an evil char. What I wanted to say is that if you want her to be evil you should use a RP and ic method to play it and not to use ooc methods. Although I already excused me for blaming you for the Golden Coin I know that you used similar ooc methods before. (The only thing I can remember that could explain your complaint, Bepules .. is another character selling his chainmail pants for 200.000 just after the Golden Coin was over. He did sell it at the same location but was not involved in this RP event in any way. Always be careful with making accusations based on second hand information

By the way I agree with your point that using such OOC information is bad RP .. it just didn't occur at this auction.)
