What is a proper honorific for a Kran?
« on: June 07, 2007, 06:41:58 pm »
Having looked at this bug today I thought it might be a good idea to see if we could come up with a new term to use as a Kran honorific. People call me Sir Kran quite often despite the fact I have no gender. I guess it is the masculine appearance. I personally would prefer Bud or buddy but another possibility might be Gem or Gemma. Anyone have other ideas?

Frak usually just calls them "bloo bugger" if that helps.

Whatever you call them... just don't take them for granite! Good point though, Bilbous... I like Gem and Gemma.

There was a discussion here once that touched on Kran pronouns as well. I think ka (he/she/it), Kir {his/hers/its) and Kim (him/her) were chosen then, though those are not in-game yet.

I try to address Krans as "good Kran", avoiding the sir/miss issue. But Gem is kind of nice.

Both my suggestions were based on the birthing process, budding or more properly gemmation, I think. In any event being a singular honorific applied solely to Kran it would seem redundant to follow it with Kran in the case of someone whose name you did not know or did not wish to speak. Neither really flows off the tongue when followed by Kran either. Can we come up with something that would?

I'm thinking "Honourable" or perhaps "Honoured." Although we really should sort it out soon :)

Perhaps it could be some kind of geologic term indicating durability. Perhaps bastardizing igneous into Ignic...I don't know is that too far fetched?
