« on: June 18, 2007, 09:51:48 pm »
hello all and thanks.

can't find my other topic that had the system specs but.

OS winXP
64mb video card, hardware acceleration, MMX, SSE ( stuff I don't really understan )
512mb ram ( most stuff was disabled via msconfig )
3.2ghz 3dnow, MMX, SSE ( or whatever it's called )
about 200gig hd

my problem is I get this wierd graphics during a zone. like the whole side of a building I could see through and stuff. very annoying when at the arena or other spots that seem to have this issue.

here is a picture
any solution? fix? advice? i'll be opening up my computer soon to see how many slots for RAM it has.

would I need to upload a log?

Have you tried updating the driver for your graphics card?

I'd recommend a card from the 21st century first off ;)

The chrome series cards are not particularly good at all. That said your artifacts look to me like you are running with adaptive camera enabled.  I could be wrong here though.

well guess it wouldn't hurt just to step out my house for once. again. d:

any suggestions for a vid card that is cheap and will run PS smoothly? bought RAM today from my manufacturer and haven't had the chance to try and see if PS runs any better due to the server being bork'd.

i'm not sure if RAM would solve what that picture showed but always good to have more around.

I think you can pick up an old FX series NVidia card for around 50 bucks on ebay, maybe cheaper - GeForce FX 5600 and newer are actually decent cards for the price.  If you want something that will last for a bit though get a series 6 card or better.

despite your useful help I found a temp. solution until I go out again, switching to 32bit solved alot and actually improves performance for me.

PlaneShift already runs perfectly on GeForce chips up from 2 GTS or 4 MX, and ATI 9200 series. It must be "DirectX 7 compliant" supporting "T&L" (Transform&Lighting) geometry processing. This I would call a practical minimum.

Georce FX 5/6 are of course already cheap enough to recommend those even more.

RojakPot, Desktop GPU Comparison: ATI

T&L up from ATI 7200 / 7500. Earlier cards not recommended.

(Updating recommended minimum to "ATI 7500+".)

I've been having a problem similar to the above, except without so much color...
It only happens in the wilderness areas between Oja and Hydlaa - I don't have a screenshot yet, but I can provide one once the server settles down for a bit and stops giving me errors.

Error:
-"Black" terrain (either lacking texture or not receiving any lighting info - completely black
-Holes in terrain and landscape - usually in strips, but nearer ones are just sporadic checkered holes.
--Distant land renders fine however - seems to be limited to a view distance of a few hundred units or so.
-Only happens in wilderness areas - Ojaveda, Hydlaa, and so forth are fine.

Graphics card: Intel "Extreme Graphics" 2 (don't blame me, it's not my computer)
-Drivers = up to date, such as they are.

Whenever someone experienced holes in the terrain like that, it's always been an Intel problem. The machine you were using at the time simply isn't up to the task, unfortunately.

So until I get back to Dell Diablo, this is my wilderness? :(

I miss my PC already.
