Couple things on magic
« on: June 28, 2007, 02:42:15 am »
1) I think I, and just about anyone else who uses magic will agree that it's a pain to adjust your spell power according to the spell you're using while fighting.  What I'd like to see is the ability to tie a spell to a spell power percentage.  For example, for me if I want to use life infusion I would prefer to set my spell power to 0%, but if I'm using energy arrow I'd be setting it to 60%.  It'd be nice if I could set it to automatically switch according to the spell, or even a command to set it so it could be done with shortcuts.

2) For benificial spells it would be nice if when targeting an enemy the spell would be cast on the caster.  Targeting doesn't work very well, especially when a large group is present, so it's a pain to drop the target to cast a buff or healing spell.

Anyways, discuss :)

I certainly agree that personal spells should not require targeting I also think that touch spells such as weakness ought to be cast independent of a target, have a short duration during which you must successfully hit an opponent or else it is wasted. I have not played with the spell power much but I think /cast spell could be altered to take a power rating as modifier.

I think these are great.

I would also like to see a caster stand to lose the spell if she is hit with a sword/dagger/fist while casting.  And, I would also like to see "saving throws" implemented.  Just because a caster gets a spell off, doesn't mean the target is harmed.  On the other hand, failing the save may inflict double or triple damage depending on how poorly one rolled.

I completely agree. If you are 50 in Crystal Way and only 10 in Azure Way, a caster would want to use different spell powers depending on which Way they were casting. Perhaps something like this, to cast a spell at 40%:

  /cast Life Infusion 40

Not necessarily, because sometimes you might want to cast a beneficial spell on someone else. You could add a "/target self" to your healing shortcut if you want it to always only work on you.

ac there are several beneficial spells one can ONLY cast on one's self, at the least for those the suggestion of not needing to target makes sense.. but, many players have shortcuts with self targeting includedfor healing -- what i think is a bigger pain [or at least used to be for me was/] is after having healed yourself; trying to re-aqquire an opponent as target when others are around-- specifically with longer ranged spells.

Healing Default

I did an advanced search on this and didn't find a thread on it although it could have been mentioned once before. If so please delete or post the thread link so that I may post in that thread.

The problem: when casting a healing spell and you don't have a target selected the spell should default to yourself instead of having to select yourself then re-cast the spell. It is an unnecessary step.

Thanks Neko ^^

I would like to add it only seems to happen when I hit a certain combination of actions. It's like there is an absolute no target, and when you are at that state and cast a healing spell you are forced to select yourself and cast it again.

I like this answer a lot.

Why can't you add the variable to the end of the cast script so even if the taget is on something else the spell is cast on you or someone in your group.

ie
/cast Life Infusion 40 <self/name>

With out the variable the spell proceeds to be cast on the target, like normal.

Does the targeting system not allow for such actions, will it default to the target no matter what?
