... chatbubbles?  I thought the community decided against them?

Well the developers obviously haven't. But putting that aside, I find them very convenient.

Added lot of new items, like bludgeoning weapons...
Does this mean that it's possible to use maces and hammers now?

It will be possible when those skills are made active. So far what we have done is simply add those item models to the game. Some more work is needed to make them actually usable the same way swords, daggers, and axes are.

Convenient, but ugly.  People like Karyuu fought to make labels less intrusive, and now we have chatbubbles.

I see it as an interactive comic book feel to the game, like I mentioned before. Sadly not everybody is wishing to make PlaneShift a believable "fantasy history in a comic book template" and we see things like "teh" on chat bubbles, something that is only found as well in humorous webcomics about internet subcultures.

... chatbubbles?  I thought the community decided against them?

And who said the community has any decion-making power here besides stop playing PlaneShift?

I'm back from vacation and it's very good to see the client released. I'm downloading it right now so I haven't seen all the new art yet, but since I tested a lot of the new code with the Testing Team I can already give many thanks to Nilaya and Vengeance. The newcomers Kemedes, DeathKiller and Alejandro also deserve a bow. Remaining thanks go to the Testing Team, especially members Lanarel and Caarrie, for helping to make this release as bug-free as possible!

I noticed that it said that "some new features in the update will be enabled shortly", when they are enabled are we going to have to use the PlaneShift Updater? Or will they simply be updated and the Updater will not be necessary? And with these new features, will they also be added onto the list?

What's this supposed to mean?  I bought a "mace and hammer" type of weapon 2 days ago and it works just like it should.(I was able to level the "mace and hammer" skill up with it also)
P.S.  THANKS for the great update!

Ah, maybe it's already working then :) Good to hear! Normally it takes a while for things like that to work after a release.

Ah, of course.  Except that I remember a number of devs hating the idea when some new players made the suggestion.  I guess they pulled a 180 on the issue?

Persuasion and influence is something I didn't mention here. I was talking about actual power to go for something that even though the majority agrees/disagrees with, the only definitive authority of the project, Talad, has the opposite opinion. So in fact, the community is poweless, though it can attempt to persuade about certain things. However, the basic framework of PlaneShift, that was already thought up even before it was launched as free, will be as easy about to convince the devs to change for something else the most of community would see as better than to drive a nail with a wrecking ball. And anyway, fortunately the chat bubbles aren't hardcoded and you can delete them by simply moving or erasing a xml file, though now I also agree that the effort spent on them would be better spent in another feature, or in more bug fixes and solidity.

Are you sure about that?  I thought Talad defers to people like Vengeance most of the time.  He'll approve the decisions people make, but he's not the source of change and he tends to go in what direction his inner circle pushes him.  That's just my impression though.

Hummm. I think I'm really liking that list of features in this update.  I may have to start playing again soon. ^^
