PlaneShift's code is open-source, but its art is not. All levels, characters, creatures, items, icons, loading screens, music, NPCs, quests, everything that falls under "art" is copyright Atomic Blue and cannot be used in any other project. Therefore, unfortunately the PlaneShift RPG is out.

No, because the art content is copyrighted. Just like you cannot make copies of World of Warcraft models and create a single-player WoW, so you cannot use PlaneShift's art. Your graphics, your storylines, they would need to be entirely different. PlaneShift's world is unique and belongs to Atomic Blue.

Why would you do that if the game would have nothing to do with PlaneShift? Remember, your game wouldn't be in Yliakum, you couldn't use the same races or race names, so everything would be entirely different. "PlaneShift Singleplayer" would be extremely misleading.

Well yes, but the gameplay will be essentially the same and since its based off of your engine i feel i owe it some respect.

You can do that in the credits :) A title should be something very unique to your project and make it easily recognizable. If your game has nothing to do with our PS, you shouldn't mention it in the title or else you risk confusing a lot of people. Besides, our engine (Crystal Space) is used for several other games as well, that do not relate to PS at all. The CS team and PS team are separate.
