Newest Release (0.3.019a) has no psclient.app!
« on: July 18, 2007, 02:12:34 am »
I've been trying to play this game for close to 2 weeks now, but it hasn't worked for me due to... bad luck, I guess? First, the update to version 0.03.19 prevented me from trying out PlaneShift on my G4 laptop. When the Mac version was finally released, it only worked for Intel Mac users. Fine. But now, finally, after the RE-release has been put out there, it still doesn't work!

Anyways, I created this thread to bring attention to the fact that the past 2 torrents have not contained a "psclient.app" file (or "pssetup.app" for that matter). The only reason I know that those files are even supposed to be there is because I downloaded 0.3.18 previously and noticed that these files were missing in the two newest releases. I have not noticed ANY recent threads mentioning the fact that these two seemingly vital files just aren't there. Maybe the solution to the current problems is adding these two files to the torrents?

I have also downloaded the 019a version and it does not start up. I am using a G4 running 10.3.9a, and this is the output I get when I start it in terminal. I seem to have the exact same files in version 018 but that version loads fine in terminal. Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

 All is well with my G4, 10.4.10  downloaded using BT, all in folder ok, login game no problem.
Try running the Disk Utility, and see if Permissions are all ok.

Run your permissions at least once a week. You will be amazed what it can solve.

I may have found the problem: even though the hyperlink in the Mac Client Status thread says version
Code: [Select]
http://laanx.fragnetics.com/bt/PlaneShift_CB_Mac_019a.dmg.torrent it is in fact pointing to a torrent file that is named
Code: [Select]
http://laanx.fragnetics.com/bt/PlaneShift_CB_Mac_019.dmg.torrent (without the "a").

I'm downloading the "a" version now (after correcting the filename in my web browser). I suggest the moderators correct the Mac Client Status thread to have the hyperlink point to the correct torrent file.

I'll make sure to post again if I can get the newest download to work.

Thanks for the help ... but

I did download the "PlaneShift_CB_Mac_019a.dmg" version, i had to change the browser address manually as well. I checked the file permissions and repaired them, I rebooted, and it still says that it can not find the file "libSystem.B.dylib". I did a search for this file and it does not seem to exist, although it did find lots of files that finish with "dylib"

Any other ideas, the help is very much appreciated?

It appears that it depends on some things which are only present in 10.4 at the moment.

I followed drrdoombot's advice and just typed typed the following in my browser:

http://laanx.fragnetics.com/bt/PlaneShift_CB_Mac_019a.dmg.torrent

It gave me the bittorent download. I'm running a G4 using 10.4.10 and it works.

Ah this along the lines of my problems  with  the .19 releases tried the .19a download but it does not have a PSclient  button that can get me in the game ( like the lovely .18 had a crystal logo   to boot the game up :D)  So I can't get on to it , tried the torrents and  it comes as a excel document .. ???

HELP would be nice tried   other options downloaded from basically all of the mirrors comes as the same    , and no im not a major tecchny computer guy so step by step help would be nice ( i  know the basics rom downloading the .18 version by the way  :P)

To those having the issue of Planeshift not opening under Mac OS 10.3.x, I should probably note that the Mac Client Status sticky says that Planeshift is broken under 10.3.x.  Looks like you'll have to upgrade to get it to work.

No idea.  I hope so, but I doubt it's a high priority at the moment.  Maybe the devs will get to it later down the road.
