Plate armor in new version?
« on: July 18, 2007, 07:27:01 pm »
In the main page of the PS site there is a list of the new features in release .19.  It states: ''Added plate mail for many chars''

I haven't seen any plate mail and I haven't heard of anyone else having seen it. Maybe this feature will be enabled in the future?

Talad was referring to plate mail skins being added, which is different from having usable plate mail for characters.

There are in fact plate mail gloves of some sort.  But I believe that is all that is currently available.

Well what good is it to have player skins for plate mail armor if there is no plate mail to wear?!

NPCs have them, and players will be able to get platemail armor in the near future.

Hmm I thought NPC's were already donning plate mail in .18? And I'm certain that the gloves became available before the .19 version. ???

I said those are new in .019. The only ones we have left now are female Enkidukai, female Ynnwn, and male Stonebreaker, because these are not created yet. We release things when we make them, not before ;) So the remaining three are going to be in .020 - we should have enough time to finish them.

It's already in the game on several NPC guards or other characters - the question is when is it going to be available for players. Unfortunately that's not something I can answer, since the Settings team is likely to introduce it via quests first, and I don't know when they're going to fit it in. Plus I'm not sure they're going to tell you before they do it. Quests however are often introduced in the middle of a release. There are several new ones already since .019 has been out, so perhaps you won't need to wait for .020. I just don't know for sure.

What will Klyros be able to wear as a subtitute for plate mail if we can't wear them?  X-/

There won't be anything close to platemail for Klyros, unfortunately - remember that their anatomy and light skeletal structure does not allow for the wearing of such heavy garments. If you are a Klyros, you will have to defend yourself using speed, not bulk.

So perhaps some kind of cloth armor, lighter than Leather, might be an idea for the future? The Klyro version having some brand of magical enhancement that provides a speed or agility boost? Not an unbalancing amount, certainly, but enough to offset their lack of physical protection against a plate-armored foe?

I envision something stylish enough that plate-enabled races would occasionally want to wear it for the look, though the magical enhancements would be Klyros-only. Heck, it might not be unreasonable to think such an armor would be [made] by Klyros, for the very reason above. ;)

Just a thought.

in the interest of fairness and racial equality we tend to not distribute such goods until they are available for all available models. The npcs get them first as a preview and means of bug testing with player eyes. Be patient dear players you will get your clunky metal suits soon enough. I will probably propose some alternative for klyros to the lady of the house.
