WinXP Pro
Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53Ghz processor)
768 PC2100 DDR RAM
GeForce4Ti 4400 (128 Megs)

I play in 1024x768 resolution, 16bit color, OpenGL.  I rarely have any slow-up.  So that means it isn\'t the game.  ;)

Maybe you should make sure all of your drivers are current, and get a RAM monitoring/freeing program.  There are some memory issues with PlaneShift, but nothing a RAM freeing tool can\'t fix.

I run with a RADEON 9700 Pro.  You\'re 8500 isn\'t that bad a card a though.  Make sure you have the latest Catalyst drivers.  I see good frame rates, but they do need to be carefull on their polygon counts.  It\'s very overloaded and the biggest slowdown is when it has to load new areas in the visual scene.  I\'ve played at 1280x1024 with good results.

Check your settings.  I think you can reduce your visual range which can help too.  Do you hear a lot of disc thrasing?

Win XP pro
dual processors PIII 1.26 GHz each
1 GB of PC 133 Ram
Geforce 4 Ti 4400 128 MB of ram

I also experience hardly any slowdowns, only slowdowns i recieve is when it just begins to rain and sometimes when i look at either tower.

Yes I think it is a driver problem as well.  Please make sure they are updated.  You should experience some intermittent lag as these other guys describe but not particularly slow framerates.

The intermittent lag will be largely fixed when the patch comes out I think.

Another thing you might wanna check for is to make sure that when you run the game it isn\'t being done in compatibility mode to win98/me.

I was experimenting around with it and the game actually runs slower in compatibility mode win98/me. My guess is that WinXp has better management of system resources then the older os\'s so just make you run it in default WinXP without any kind of compatiblity mode enabled.

I have had mixed results when running in compatability mode.  Before the patch, in Win98/ME the game crawled along, but in WinNT mode it ran fine.  I could not get the game to load when using 2000/XP mode.  So you may need to experiment yourself.

The current update seems to greatly increase the FPS, has for me... most likely will for you as well.

I have 1GB of ram and use a 1ghz cpu along with a Geforce4 ti4600 and windows XP.

I get horrible frame rates, even in the latest build. Is there a fog plain in this game? It looks like it tries to render as far as the eye can see...

Just in case the software has problems communicating with my hardware I\'ve enabled fog table emulation on my graphics card yet I still get horrible frame rates.

I\'ve tested this on 2 of my machines with exactly the same specs though different motherboards.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

My specs are similar to yours Zante

Win XP pro
dual processors PIII 1.26 GHz each
1 GB of PC 133 Ram
Geforce 4 Ti 4400 128 MB of ram

And i receive hardly any slowdowns at all! Have you DLed the latest drivers for your vid card? Do you have the latest ver. of PS?

I dont think these will help improve game speed a whole lot but im going to list them anyways.

1. run pssetup.exe and lower res. and color depth.

2. check the settings for you vid card and make it better.

3. defrag and scan disk

4. if all else fails reformat.

It\'s all very odd. The pc I\'m running on has had a recent format and I\'m using the latest detonator drivers from nvidia for windows xp. I\'ve made all the changes that you could expect including increasing my clock frequency for a while. No improvement.

Geforce 4 MX 440 64 DDR @ 333mhz Core / 400mhz Mem

AND THIS GAME CRAWS!!!!!!!!! i mean SUCKY FPS like MAD...CRAZY mad..... Win98 too , so my OS isn\'t taking up the mad ram like XP does.... crazy stuff man.
i can\'t even run 640x480 OpenGL decently , it\'s like 10fps....  i even OC\'d my proc to like 3.2ghz and STILL it was slow.... maybe 11fps lmao it was even slowwer in Software mode!

What did you expect with a Geforce 4 MX?!
The MX series are closer related (actually: very closely) to the Geforce 2-series than to the Geforce 4 Titanium series!
Take this piece of advice: get a new videocard for that computer, it is most definately the bottleneck with your current configuration.

it\'s at 400mhz Mem chief... it beats out every radeon 9000 64 meg pro in 3dmark / etc , trust me.... thats not it :)

hrmmm , just did the updater , gave me like 15 fps now , lmao..... still , very inefficient engine so far....
cause morrowind runs great at 1600x1200 on this...
