Stuck sitting down
« on: August 09, 2007, 11:02:07 pm »
I've been away from PS for a while, as I have lost interest in PS for many reasons. I recently logged in to say hi. Took me a few times to get in while server wasn't down, but made it in, only to discover that I was stuck sitting down. Turns out glyphs that used to weigh 0 now have weight. I have been saving a lot of glyphs, for personal use, investment in case of another money wipe, saving for friends and new players, or to sell. Basically a "virtual business." But now that glyphs have weight, I'm now stuck on the floor, overloaded and unable to move. Thanks again devs.

After dueling was made far less interesting, I lost some interest in the game. After a couple GMs thought that since Drahlian the "Dwarfslayer" was a racist and therefore the player behind her must also be a racist, I've been threatened by GMs (Hadfael, DaveG, Syilph) with banishment for RP that caused many, many people to thank me (anyone around during the Dwarvesbane/Dwarven Star war will know what I'm talking about). Long story short, almost all of the dwarves that Drahlian "harassed" were secretly good friends with me, the player. Yet "Game Masters" (what an oxymoron that is) failed to see this. This sort of control over RP by those that don't understand RP makes me lose interest. I even saw a GM here in the forums who wanted to "thank all those that are good at RP," and she had the audacity to thank one of her own characters. Some "leadership" we have here.

Anyway, long story short, I have been playing less and less PS over the last year, and quit altogether weeks ago, and doubt the game will ever improve enough to interest me again. I started when the version was 0.3.011 if I remember correctly, in December 2005. Twenty months, and the game's hardly changed. Talad recently said that the game must first go to .4, .5, .6,...,.9, before it ever gets to 1.0, a "finished" game. It's been 20+ months at the .3 stage. How long, I wonder, before it is complete? I'm betting the answer is "never."

Most of my PS friends left long ago, but to any that remain, farewell and happy Planeshifting (standing around waiting for monsters to not be impervious after the latest crash).

you have to drop stuff cause you char can't hold all the stuff he has. it's newly implemted for overweight chars.

I must say that I enjoyed RP'ing with you, Drahlian. I know most of your chars, but this one, the dwarf slayer, attracted me much more than the other ones (not physically :P) It's good and neccessary to have enemies and bad guys, keeps it more interesting to stick around and to RP with, and as long as it goes with the settings or doesn't turn OOC, or just too cruel, almost any RP could be done, so personally, I don't consider your RP-racism as something that doesn't belong here.

Don't you have any weapons that increase strength when equipped
and dequipped multiple times?
I bet this bug has not been fixed yet, I may be able to log in and
bring you a set. If I don't have those weapons anymore due to some
"balancing", maybe I'm lucky and spawn next to you, because my toon
is surely stuck sitting somewhere too.

Greetings

Brother ... where are you ? ... Me Kran ... me looking for you!

OOC: Sorry, I couldn't resist  :P

These weapons should be fixed now or gone from the game if not.

Look at the numbers, it's plain to see, if 1.0 is our goal and we are at .3.019. The key to look at is the .019 at the end. If there are no skips and the numbers progrss in a logical manner, when we reach .3.099 the next build will turn over to .3.100. A special note to the two zeros at the end, cause I am pretty sure the build after that will be .3.101. So it took, what??, how many months
to go from .3.011 to .3.019?? And you're complaining that we're not at .4 yet, let alone 1.0. we have not even scratched the surface of .3, we still have a LONG LONG way to go.

So in conclusion, by the time PS reaches the halmark of 1.0, all our efforts and ideas will have given our great, great, great, great ... GREAT grand children a wonderful game, hopefully ... in which turn Talad's decendants then start can charging our decendants a monthly fee and then they can go on looking for the next free ride.

Recalling our ingame OOC discussion it seems much more likely that you kept failing to differentiate between accusing someone of IC realism and saying it's against the settings, and accusing someone for OOC racism. I did the first, and you constantly tried to convince me that the second was not the case, therefore I assume that it was the exact same with the GMs.
that caused many, many people to thank me (anyone around during the Dwarvesbane/Dwarven Star war will know what I'm talking about). As I pointed out so many times already, not everything that creates interaction in a medieval style is RP. Everything that goes against the setting is not RP, regardless of it's other properties. Racism in PS is one of these things. Also, it doesn't mean a thing that people went along with it. Hordes of people have gone along with quite stupid things, so, as usual, quantity doesn't mean quality.
How long, I wonder, before it is complete? I'm betting the answer is "never."
Straight on the point. A program that's opensource will never be finished.
happy Planeshifting (standing around waiting for monsters to not be impervious after the latest crash).
And I bet you call that "RP", too, huh? Focus less on fighting and these issues won't touch you.

BTW, just for the info: the numbers do not increase linearly. Between major releases (like V0.2 -> V0.3) there have been some minor releases, but not nearly the 999 it'd take. A new major number is given to the release that marks a significant milestone. The transition from MB to CB was one of them, as was the transition from AB to MB.
Going at the pace PS has, a new major number is, on average, due every ~2.5 years, so V1.0 will in theory be reached around 2025. However, that will mean that everything is done. I expect that PS will be perfectly playable around V0.6, IOW around 2015.
