« on: August 12, 2007, 10:48:25 pm »
Are the only skins for PlaneShift Elven, stone, or default?

Are there any other?

those are the only official skins for now but you never know when a dev might make a new one.

I encourage fans to try creating their own skins - if they are really good, we might make them official. That is how the elves skin from Cherppow ended up in the client.

There may be others still available for download in the fan art section, but you'll have to search for them.

What is going to happen when a xml change, or a new is made? An background image is going to be changed, made a new one, for every skin out there?

The best solution i can think of is everytime someone make a skin, it is going to be in game as long as that person makes new images and updates as needed and when needed. If that person won't do that, that skin goes out. Of course copyrights goes to AB as always, so no reusing somewhere else under any conditions, unless specified.
A special download section can be prepared where all skins are gathered. These, which aren't in client. Maybe outdates, maybe incomplete, but free for everyone to download them and use. There is no such place currently and i have no idea where to find skins some players made. They are gone forever to public, just like that.

Speaking about xmls.
Is there complety noone interested in what i can do about what they are now?
I mean, devs i been talking to are eighter too busy, forget, or i don't know. Even though i can make the layout better, also with curent images, to enjoy players. It will be almost a frakking year since i started trying, i suppose i have a right to be a little angry then. Talad make a thread about what little bugs and annoyances people are struggling with, but noone want to work on gui xmls, especially that there is someone who want to do it for free at all?
Even though one day all these changes may be wiped by newer versions and updates, i can do nothing more than this! I have nothing to loose, noone has nothing to loose. Bah, talking about it takes more time than inplementation!

Arianna knows the GUI best, but she is busy right now because of a new position and she's going on a honeymoon very soon. I hope you can forgive the lack of time.. :)

What is it that you need from the dev side at the moment? Maybe I can help out.

Yeah, I were asking Arianna once a few times, but nothing were ever implemented. And everyone are busy, thats normal. Its not normal that while keeping to develop a game, someone who want to do it too, can't do it. While if two people are working instead of one (even if one has to spend some time implelemting) there is still progress.

I would be really glad if you managed to help out.
There is a site http://crimsonorder.freepgs.com/things/ps-mc/ where i keep all the stuff, with some images. Everything up to date and only taste what i can do. Not hard to gues i want this implememnted and i want to talk about different aspects of it, if someone can't agree with what i change there.
Someone has to do it and i don't know who. I need help.

Some patches are art only, so maybe for you Karyuu.
Some are both images and xmls (so i have to work with two different people from two different departments?)
And most are xmls only

It would really help if the xml's weren't global.  Skins now are simply just redo's of the basic background images for all the windows.  If you change the xml you have to modify it outside the skin and restore your changes after each update.  It would also be quite helpful to be able to change the skins on the fly.  We were able to do this in PT fairly easy, but we use CEGUI.  Are these things a limitation of PAWS?  iirc the changing of skins on the fly was a simple function that essentially destroyed all windows and recreated them with the new skin.  Would that really be that difficult via PAWS? These things don't sound too critical but they REALLY speed the development of new skins up.  A guitest is nice but it helps to have the game loaded so you can really interact with everything.

All you do is run the PlaneShift setup application, click on the "Skins" button, and choose "Stone" from the drop-down list.

That happens to me now and then - seems like the setup is being stubborn with selections sometimes. Choose the stone skin several times, and perhaps try launching the client from the setup app itself afterwards. It should work eventually.
