Sticky this please, because I think there's an error in navigation and not many newbies are finding the guides and tutorials.

Cool but of little help. The last hateful thing I discovered about quests is that I could finish a quest and lose money and respect from merchants.

Why can't quests be discarded? If you could at least nullify them and either start over or just continue with others, maybe the Kafkian cul-de-sacs in which questers fall once and again would not be so annoying. I could say: "ok I could not finish this and that quest... but maybe in 2009 I will have found some obscure knowledge that allows me to finish it. Let's do something else". But if unfinished quests accumulate, they may interfere with each other in unknow way making frustration grow and grow.

Some quests are supposed to be done only one time. If we allow players to discard them and start again, they can amass faction points and various rewards over and over - and we'd run into the sort of exploit situations that have existed before.

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

I think he means an option to discard quests you have not yet finished. You could not discard quests that you have already completed. That would keep people from racking up rewards unless there is some strange quests that gives a reward to you before you actually finish the quest  ::|

Then again, i may be wrong.

Many quests give you something during the journey and not only after completion - faction points, items, etc.

OK, i lose :D

I understand items, but could you not wait to give faction points until after the quest is completed. I know, it doesnt really matter because of the items, but im just wondering.

Allow to discard only unfinished quests, obviously.  :whistling:

That's true... but still, unfinished quests (that will likely never be finished - for instance, you realize that the quest item weights too much and drop it, or you just get bored of trying to persuade the dumb NPC to continue the quest at some point, or...) are much more of a nuisance than what you say. I'd prefer to bear a few cheaters with that issue than to have to bear all those unfinished quests that are probably interfering with new quests and so on and so on (snowball effect).

A possible solution to this issue anyhow could be to forbid the re-start of abandoned unique quests, so if you decide to drop a quest, you know that you are really renouncing to it forever (unless it's repeteable). You pay a price for the benefit of not having un-doable quests queing up (what is a huge problem in itself).

That's how we had it before. People were upset that they couldn't restart the non-repeatable quests they discarded, only to find out later that the discard of certain quests prevented them from getting winch access.

What about just allowing the discarding of known broken quests? Those are the only ones that people should want to discard.

It doesn't matter: when you are carrying an object that weights more than zero pounds and you have limited strength... you just can't continue the quest if you get stuck and you normally just drop it. This is as much as dropping the quest itself.

I don't know yet what's in the Winch area... but if all depends on one fixed quest and not on a diffuse set of them (those that give you certain faction points) and this implies carrying an object that weights more than 1 pound and I get stuck and cannot go through that problem within about 10 minutes... I will never cross the Winch gate with my current weakling character, really. Also probably my character wil get resented against the government and join an evil facion... when able to carry a beer kech.

Look: I need all my strength to carry the little gold I can, I can't waste it in quest objects.

Many quests give you something during the journey and not only after completion - faction points, items, etc.

So require people to wait a reasonable amount of time (one month would work) before retaking a quest they abandoned. People who still attempted to abuse quests would have to invest much more time and long-term commitment and ultimately gain very little advantage, if any. At the same time, legitimate users aren't prevented from reaping the potentially very useful benefits of the many one-time quests. Thus, the game would be more balanced as well.

That's not a bad compromise. I'd support that. Pass it by the GMs.

I would think that you could also make a note in the character's database about which quest rewards were gained from unfinished quests and delete the notes only when that quest has been finished. That way if if a player starts a quest and drops it to pick it up again later the system can avoid giving the rewards a second time. The initial steps could be requested without reward until the character gets past the point where he dropped it and rewards continue normally.

I think that would be ideal, bilbous, but it might be complicated from an engine standpoint.

um, i'm extremely new here, to the game, and to the forums, so, please forgive any transgressions i may make, but...

why not just create a bank (and preferably, a great big one! )?  it seems that that would solve the problem of carrying around that excess "quest item" weight.  i realize the weight limitations are there in order to make it realistic, but, why not just lower the weight limitations a little, and create a bank where we could store the stuff (quest stuff, especially) that isn't needed at the moment? with so many things that will eventually be trainable,  it might be a very feasible option IMO. i mean, even "old mother hubbard" had her cupboards...:)

thank you.
