PlaneShift Status?
« on: August 22, 2007, 10:08:56 am »
Hello all
I have been trying PlaneShift on and off for about 1 year. The last time I left because there were no quests, monsters to kill and such. And in additionI felt bored because of the lack of content.
I was looking at the games on MMORPG and I read the famous thread about the history of PlaneShift. So I thought I would come back to check what is the current situation of the game as far as content, server status and such

Thank you for your answers

The news on the mainpage should answer all of your questions. About the server status... well, it's not always stable, but that's not untypical for :beta:

Yea,but thru my playing experience I have learned that the official news are not often reliable and are often exaggerated.
In addition, because I am working for Acclaim Games Inc as volunteer moderator/volunteer game master, I know that sometimes NDA doesn't allow to post everything
So, that is why I am asking for the players opinions

Exaggerated..? That's new :]
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

It really depends on what you expect. Shiny new areas have been added, content has been added (including animations and one model!), and quests have been added and improved. Even NPC interaction is improving.
However, if you're not deeply into RPing (in the drama way, not the hack&slash way), then PS will still bore you after a while (not necessarily a bad thing IMO).

BTW, the news on the mainsite aren't exaggregated; the expectations that unsuspecting players have based on them are.

Nothing is new.I have been playing games long enough to not be surprised by anything

Seytra, thank you for your post
I understand the thing about RP and although I am not very good at it, I can give it a try. However there is more to MMOs than RP: monsters, combat, skills, levels, guild wars, pvp
I have heard that the PS community doesn't like wars and pvp
Is the updater working now?

I don't think Planeshift is for you. There's lots of MMOs that require no human contact outside of trade and guildwar/pvp. This doesn't happen to be one of them.

I am not entirely certain Jeraphon is correct. There are all the things you mention here all you need to do if find a better reason than "because I want to" to do them. It is certainly possible to do the strong silent DIY adventurer and you are bound to meet other like minded people. You will also find people who try to get you sucked into their soap operas or Grande Events  but you can ignore them if you feel like. Even if you are "in to" those things Seytra mentioned you may still get bored if the themes you want to play and the themes that are commonly played out currently do not mesh. There are a number of ardent role players here, it is actively promoted, but they can be a little over protective of their playground at times. If you stick with the settings you should be fine but they still have large holes in them and some people frown on logical extrapolation.

If bug testing is to your taste you will be more than welcome if you follow the reporting protocols and if anyone faults you for not role playing you can always ask them what bugs they have reported lately. This is a test server after all. Of course if you test and role play as best you can ( don't talk out of character if you can help it, follow the [guidelines] if you need to you should get along fine. You may not be embraced by all but you should not be hounded either.
