Really two questions coming from a noob. I've read and browsed much of the newbie help guides and while they all offer good advice and the overview of the concept behind the actions and theories of the game... I found them to inform me what to do but not how to do it, I eventually got the hang of much of the actions in the game through reading the key map and some old fashioned button mashing (if a 1yr old learns about the RL world that way then a 20something can do so in a RP world ^^ ))

I've read up on skills that are listed in the active/ nonactive thread, and read that I need to find the NPC that offers training of a skill and that it will use up PP's (progression points) and even found out what the yellow/ blue/ pink and green bars mean. Question is... they need money too? I either missed that tid bit somewhere or it is simply tucked away in the unknown category. Is there a formula that determines how much $ you need to improve "X" skill per 1PP? I was slightly puzzled when the NPC mentioned I cannot afford the improvement even when I had 17 PPs

I realize that this is still in early dev mode and learning the game will be like learning how to walk in a construction site. I am wondering if there is yet a "welcome to the game, I can help you learn the basics in a simple quest format!" in the game, or if one is planned

*having much fun in a real RP game, meeting many helpful people.* ... but still a noob for now  :surrender:

I'm not sure on the ratio of money/progression points when training, but as far as the in-game help, there is no guide, or tutorial. However many of the citizens will help you out and guide you if you ask. Most of these people hang around Harnquist at the smithery, but most people you meet won't mind helping you, including myself if I'm on.

There IS a tutorial. It, like the rest of the game, is in it's infant stages.

Yes, to train you both need PP and Tria.  You probably just over looked that some where.  Teachers don't simply give out their knowledge to strangers for free you know.  As to how much per PP, that depends on many factors. Such as, what it is you're trying to train, what your current skill lvl is, and so on.  Generally, training lower level skill levels, costs less than when training higher level skill levels.

Or I could be wrong and it's simply a flat rate of 42 Tria per PP, as I haven't played around with that part of the game in quite some time.  :)

Really, there's a tutorial? Where, I could use a few tips. By the way, I don't consider the sites Player Guide a tutorial, I feel that it needs some upgrades before being considered that.

When you start a new character you get that yellow figure with the ! above it at the bottom middle of the screen whenever you do something for the first time. Click on it.

The cost of each training does not change much depending on skill level (around 42 trias), but the number of times you need to train a skill to fill out the yellow section does.

You will find pretty soon that having a job helps a lot in getting the money you need.  Mining is the easiest to learn as you can get some ore even at low levels although you will have to dig for a long time.  Another possibility is metallurgy, but you need to complete quests from the weapon makers to learn how to do it and you need to train it to level 20 before you can make lots of money out of it.  In theory, blacksmithing + sword making, blacksmithing + axe making, blacksmithing+knife making, repair weapons and repair armors will eventually be jobs that can give you money but, at the moment, there does not seem to be enough players that can afford those services (cheaper to sell your weapons and armors back to merchant and buy new ones when their quality is getting low).

Dear duchess,

you will surely find people in game who will help you. For example, I would enjoy to meet you during the weekend.

There is a tutorial

a) installed with the game, located in the folder "guide" inside the game directory (a little outdated, from the year 2005),
b) at the PlaneShift website, when you unfold the link ">> Documentation",
c) in the PlaneShift Wiki, specifically the Gameplay FAQ or Players Guide - Skills
d) in several "Beginner Guides" on the websites of different guilds
