Thread Split here per request of the Bugs Team.  All posts in the original thread have been noted.  Starting new thread start here for new SIMPLE solutions suggested by players to ovoid duplicates.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't have really 5, as I haven't been able to register yet... but...
I did see that there is a fair amount of xml.  So I was curious if it would be possible to have the gui fully xml customizable.  I played in WoW for 2 years, and I had a custom UI always.  While I didn't create these UI's, I often changed them a little to tweak them to my preferences.
You certainly responded quickly to some of those formatting requests, Carrie, and you certainly know your way around .xml code.
Are you one of the devs, and will these (very good) widget changes make it into 3.020?
I am not a dev and yes they are already in the comming release for .020
I don't have 5 things that I can think of, only one (the devs breath a sigh of relief). Not sure if there is anyone else that agrees, or whether it's just me, but here it is;
1 (and the only one (woo!))) Perhaps change the names of the magic to something simple and easy to remember and type. For example, /cast Burst Flame is too long to type (and I'm a typist!) and I had to look that one up! But /cast flame would be great! or /cast fire. Anything that would simplify the typing and remembering.
I know you can bring up the cast window and select from there, but that can become cumbersome if you are using text to fight monsters.
Thanks for listening. FoxII out.  ;D
Hum, you should try using shortcuts aka hotkeys for that purpose.
He has a point.
If summon missile is only spell you know you should be able to write "/cast s" and the system understands it.
Basically, you have to write only first letters of each spell name and if this will be unique, eg you will know no other spell starting with these letters, the system should know, which spell you want to cast.
And yeah, shortcuts is a good way... but you know, we don't have infinite sortcuts and even if we have really a lot now, i find not enough key-shortcuts for these ;P
And Caarie, how are you doing that? I had the shortcutedit window fixed since over half a year and was talking with various people about implementing it and your stuff goes instantly in. + mine is resizable and has an actual BG image
What you can failure tommorow, failure today.
Mine works with what is already available and Xordan approved it. I was also on the team that was told to work on making a list of all these requests and to fix what i could so i did.
Unless someone shoves a patch in my (or another devs) face it probably won't get committed, because we don't see it. Caarrie is very good at that :P
there is a common sentence in german that says:
If you had listened to your teacher you wouldn't have to do this work today ....
I wish I had better listenend to my programming teacher ......
Be sure of that !
I would love to help ...
It is all fun Xordan and all, till you ask yourself a question.
Do we want people to help us or we don't bother?
You know, I don't like slapping people with patches and annoy them to death. You do?
In the end it is not only you who may stop to bother.
I want people to actively help. How am I supposed to know if someone has made a patch if they tell me don't me eh? I'm not psychic. I really don't have the time to go searching to see if someone has made a patch for something. Either present it directly or it's not going to be known about to get committed.
Sounds like you are saying, Xordan, that people with patches are better served by starting a PM discussion with you than posting on the forums. Does that sound about right?
or you can make a thread about it and get feedback on it and ALSO point him to it by a PM.
Or kick your patch towards a member of the Bug Team and let them handle it, as it's what they do.
