Not sure if it's been mention before, but I've always been amazed at the scope and detail of the sci-fi MMORPGAnarchy Online.

It has one of the biggest game worlds I've ever seen, a super in-depth background plot, and millions of different futuristic items, from synthetic chocolate cake (which you can use to beat people to death with... slowly) to hover cars which you can fly around in.

Although it's not as RP-centered as PS, there's still a lot of RPers, and there's bars and clubs in almost every city, as well as an on-going story hosted by the GMs.

There's like, 13 professions, each one with unique abilities (Adventurers can morph into animals, Agents can disguise themselves as other professions, Metaphysicists can summon a horde of weird-ass minions, Engineers can build robots and craft stuff, etc.) And they have randomly-generated, instanced 'missions' where you run around the world following NPCs or recovering items without worrying about kill-stealing...

If I was gonna pay for an MMORPG, it'd be AO.

Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure the original game is free forever, but if you want to use any of the 4 expansions you're going to have to subscribe.

I prefer SOF2.

That game is crazy. I remember after installing it I got such a shock that I din't go back to it for two or three days... Then I loved it. I couldn't stop dismembering people.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

I got SOF1 and SOF2!

What really happens when you fire a shotgun against someone head's in point blank?
What really happens, in the same case, but aiming for an arm?
How gory warfare really is?

Play these games and you will know these and other answers.

Warning: Not recommended for the faint of heart, mentally disturbed or for people with less than 18 years old.

Add to that 'What happens when you repeatedly hack at someones head with a knife as hard as you can?'

The USAS12 (automatic shotgun) is more devastating.

The game gets boring though.  Sometimes I'll find a server with modified ammo and I'll just run around throwing smoke bombs everywhere.  Capture the Flag is boring as heck because everyone just camps and snipes.  The best weapon in the game though is the Ak-74 (74, not 47).  The initial shot is more acurate than the M4, and it seems to do more damage in general.  I'm an uzi fan as well because you have a more liquid spray of fire compared to the shotgun.  Throwing knives are always awesome, especially since they don't make much sound.

My favourite strategy though is to pull the pin off a grenade and just run at someone, or to throw a grenade ahead of me while someone is chasing me.

Ah The best game to "Sui-Nade" on is Killzone. Its so funny, especially on multiplayer vs bots mode.

I'm not big into MMORPGs, but regarding RPGs in general these are the best ones in my opinion:

Fallout 2 - SPECIAL System rocks as there are no fixed PC classes and such(It's not a wonder that it's slightly based on GURPS, that would originally be the base of the whole Fallout series, but for some reason the deal fell through). Also the history and plot are great.

Planescape Torment - One of the most non-linear and roleplay intensive CRPGs ever made. Definitively worthy.

Also there are great games that are more or less RPGs:

System Shock 2 - Great sci-fi/horror cyberpunk First Person Action game with RPG elements and a well-developed dreary plotline and history. Meet the insane would-be goddess AI SHODAN(If you didn't play this game yet, avoid reading what is below the "Spoiler Warning" in the article) and the hideous creatures of The Many !

Deus Ex 1- On the same genre of System Shock 2, but without the creepyness, has several NPC dialogues, a partially non-linear way of solving things and some plot twists as well(Although most of those are predictable as the conspiracy stuff its history was based upon is very well known on the Net). Still a great game that had many memorable(and not so memorable - Hint: "Excessively bad and cliché accents") moments.

Planescape Torment is and will always be my no. 1. Best RPG ever made. Anyway, great games you've mentioned there, but I have to add a few more, like Septerra Core, Vampire the Masquerade, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (I and II), Deus Ex II (yeah, I liked it) and Neverwinter Knights: Hordes of the Underdark (this addon is the closest to Planescape Torment's world, and also has the most complex storyline).

Fallout 2 and Deus Ex 1 are two of the best games ever made IMO. I was kind of annoyed they went a bit off the mark with Deus Ex 2. Trying to get in on the console market I guess.

WoW is the only other MMO I play, and guess what, you can find some nice, friendly and mature people who play it......

.....you just have to look really really hard for them.  ;)

[Edit] Just started playing Kings of Chaos and I think I may be a little hooked already. Seems the perfect way to pass the time at work ;)
