PS on 10.3.9?
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:03:09 am »
Please do not get your hopes up, ... but it is worth a try ...

If anyone with 10.3.9 installed would like to test the client, go ahead: http://www.faramann.net.

Binaries and instructions are found on that site.

Feedback would be appreciated. I would basically like to know if it runs AT ALL or not.

Great news! Good work Trymm, and thanks for your diligence. :) I've updated the Mac Client Status sticky appropriately. Are you planning to send a complete universal binary to Talad for upload to the download mirrors/updater repository? If you are, please let me know how that progresses so I can keep the sticky up to date. Thanks!

Something funny with the character creation window. I'm not sure if it is related to this 10.3.9 version but it ate the months (and the effects each has in the final stats).

Thanks for testing it out so quickly. I was very uncertain how the client would fare, and did not want to disappoint our 10.3.9-users even more by letting out a patched client that did not work.

The problems you refer to are not 10.3.9 specific. I can see them also on the official release when running 10.4 -- I had not noticed it before, though, as I have used quick character creation lately ...  :-[

I presume it is related to the following output when running the client:
Code: [Select]
   52856 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52856 Could not locate widget Unodin in CharBirth
   52856 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52856 Could not locate widget Byari in CharBirth
   52856 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52856 Could not locate widget Treman in CharBirth
   52856 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52856 Could not locate widget Kravaan in CharBirth
   52856 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52856 Could not locate widget Quintahl in CharBirth
   52856 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52857 Could not locate widget Azhord in CharBirth
   52857 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52857 Could not locate widget Ylaaren in CharBirth
   52857 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52857 Could not locate widget Dwanden in CharBirth
   52857 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52857 Could not locate widget Novari in CharBirth
   52857 <src/common/paws/pawswidget.cpp:932 FindWidget>
52857 Could not locate widget Yndoli in CharBirth

As to if there will be a universal binary containing both 10.4 and 10.3 support, is not yet decided. For now 10.3.9 will remain as a separate patched client. The main purpose of releasing these files was to get someone to test if this version would run at all. Now that I know that it does, I can begin to think about how to take it further.

Got in game ok with a already made player, everything looked as though it was working, opened all windows they worked ok, did not test long as on old Mac.
Run your permissions at least once a week. You will be amazed what it can solve.

from an official binary copy /planeshift/data/gui/zodiacs.xml to your install directory and that should fix this [it seems possibly that the cvs copy got in the official release if so then try getting a copy from an older version of ps] I would post a link to it but i am not sure if that is allowed. [since i dont have a mac yet i cant test this idea out]

to verify this open the file in a text editor and see if you see the normal month names showing up if you do then copy that file over, if not then you need to look else where for this file.

[edit]

Confirmed this bug with having a cvs copy of zodiacs.xml in the binary client causes this error and what i said above will fix it. Tested on linux but should be the same for mac's

Here's what I got opening my zodiacs.xml file:

Code: [Select]
<zodiacs>

<!-- Add real month names here  //blueCommand -->

    <zodiac month="1" img="zodiac0" name="A">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="2" img="zodiac1" name="B">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="3" img="zodiac2" name="C">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="4" img="zodiac3" name="D">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="5" img="zodiac4" name="E">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="6" img="zodiac5" name="F">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="7" img="zodiac6" name="G">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="8" img="zodiac7" name="H">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="9" img="zodiac8" name="I">Description</zodiac>

    <zodiac month="10" img="zodiac9" name="J">Description</zodiac>

</zodiacs>

I don't have an older version from which to get the actual data. Can anyone post the proper code/link? Thanks. And Trymm, great work!

It works. A slight problem, when talking to an npc, I suddenly get transported to a location above my current one or below it. If I press space or any button fast the first time I can get back to my first location. I try to talk to an npc again, and I get stuck at the same transported location and freeze. Also when teleported I end up in first person camera and if I try to change the camera I get an "unknown" message. Looked thru crash log, no report for this except crystalspace.font.server.multiplexer:
  Could not load font "/this/data/ttf/arial.ttf"
  188293 <src/client/psclientdr.cpp:204 HandleDeadReckon>
188331 Got DR message for unknown entity 26826.

If I continue the conversation and wait til after I'm done to press a button it transports me back to my original place.
