The Eclipse.
« on: October 08, 2007, 04:18:53 am »
The sky darkened, voices were heard on the wind, hidious creatues came from the shadows, fear was thick in the air... The Eclipse had finally come. These are the stories of those who witnessed it...

[[All right, folks, this is your time to shine. Tell what happened to your character from your character's point of view. Don't just copy/paste logs. That is boring and long. Tell it the way your character would tell it! Make it a STORY!]]

She watched in shocked horror as death sentences were given out to the ones who had failed. As she watched them phase out and vanish, she could only watch in shocked, silent horror. As the darkness decended, her hopes melted into anguish.

She ran from the city to go home to Oja, but it was all darkness. There were no landmarks, only nothingness. And then a mighty voice pronounced the ending of her world ~ her whole world as she had known it. This was it, the predictions had been true and she had scoffed. Would tomorrow come?

Erisnas prepared the messengers as the first signs of the eclipse began to show.  As the sky faded the messengers took of into the blackness.  He ran to the plaza to comfort the unprepared and confused, in order to distract from the horrors that the messengers had been sent to unleash.  One to each station to change Yliakum in a way to be remembered, but wished to be forgotten.
Confusion had struck the plaza, the young expected an attack and rallied against an nonexistent enemy.  The old prayed, remembering happenings of past eclipses.
Even while this confusion took place, the messengers rode on.

The First messenger was given the Egg and a rusted dagger worn from many killings, with one more to perform.

The Second messenger was given a large vial filled with water with something darting about in it.

The Third messenger received what seemed to be a precisely carved statue of a baby pterosaur.

The Fourth Messenger took a dark purple potion and a simple key marked with an ornate CA on its handle.

The Fifth Messenger was given the Ever Burning Kakiri feather and a spell of water breathing

The Sixth Messenger was given a small, colorless, floating pebble as well as a Dark shard.

The Seventh and final Messenger was given a bag of scrolls, a stone tablet, and a glowing shard of unknown substance.

May we see the signs and be fore warned.  Brother shall turn against brother, and sister against sister.  Governments shall collapse, crime will take root.  But, even then it shall nly be the beginning of our sorrows.

* Cebot lays somewhere in the wilderness. He hears the soft noises from the camp fire and the wind blowing. Slowly he opens his eyes and lets out a yawn. "Still dark? not yet the time to get up" he says and turns around again and cuddles onto his ulbernaut fur

[seems he overslept all the happenings :P]
So why do I love when I still feel pain?
When does it end, when is my work done?
Why do I fight and why do I feel that
I carry a sword, that I carry a sword through a battlefield?

Duraza looks up to the sky, it blackening before him. A great sense of urgency fills him up as he jumps to his feet grabbing his staff. His body becomes tense, his eyes wide open and searching madly. He takes a few looks around to make sure he is not simply imagining things. After noticing the worry and the wild behavior of some of the people around him he realizes what he believes to be true. Without giving it a second thought he runs as if his very existence depended on it. As if the threat of being sent to the crystal for a permanent death was running behind him, trying to catch him. As if Talad himself was running behind him, waiting to take the kill. But none of those things were happeneing. So why run so hard, why the urgency, the speed, the dedication even though pushing himself so hard could kill him? Because if he doesn't he might as well die. Duraza runs with a purpose, he runs for something he's wanted for a long time. Everything he's worked for has come to this moment and in his mind no pain, man, or god itself will stop him from fufilling his dreams. Greed has consumed his better judgement, wanting and lust numbing his emotions. This is it, now or never, win or lose, do or die and Duraza does not plan on failing. Like a mad man possessed he rushes through the Hydlaa gate towards Bronze Doors knowing that what he wants is near, knowing that he must succeed or all things he's ever lived for will have been in vain.....

This would be when the blasted eclipse would come…

Standing in The Secret Garden, a few good paces back from the huddled, praying masses, Marqsaynt, a tall diaboli with jet-black skin, worked hard to look like he wasn’t working hard to maintain his defiant nonchalance. A thick fog had been replaced by an even thicker darkness and all around people looked on edge and panicked.

…The same day I manage to not only offend a Talad follower and get a Laanx priestess to call me a blasphemer but some how also manage to mock some new nature “Mother” god I’ve never even heard of.

The female voice of a bard and Talad priestess cuts through the crowd’s incessant panicked murmurings and prayers with a “Fear not, for Talad will watch over us and protect.”

Whatever you say, lady… and how’s he feel about blasphemers. Oh well, if I’m going down mine as well go down swinging.

A smirk appears on the diaboli’s lips as he says challengingly, “Lets see the gods do their worst.” With a look of horror Illysia slowly backs far away from Marqsaynt.

What the blast is she afraid of, a pillar of fire shooting down from the sky and smiting me?

Marqsaynt can’t help a quick glance up at the sky. With each passing minute the townspeople inched closer to sheer unadulterated panic. The fenki bard’s musical voice cuts through the crowd again “Believe. Pray. To whichever god you believe, pray.” Marqsaynt mutters with just the “slightest” hint of venom “Oh, I believe in them all... believe they all have it in for me...”

Everyone in the garden was handling the situation differently but the most prominent choice seemed to be a newfound zeal for religion. If Marqsaynt listened hard enough he swore he could hear more deals being made than at an Ojaveda marketplace.

If I have to choose between praying and a blasted pillar of fire… I’ll take the pillar.

Addressing no one in particular Marqsaynt sneers, “Gods... people are like dim-witted groffels... one does something and all the rest just follow.”

The sky shifts from dark to an impossible to penetrate blackness. The last bastions of the masses’ composure give way as Jardet eerily states, “It comes… now.” Marqsaynt gulps slightly then puts back on his trademark easy grin. “Come on, only kids are afraid of the dar-” A terrified Hydlaa citizen rushes into the garden shouting “The monsters invade!”

Great… that’s just what this party was missing.

The terror stricken citizen sprints across the garden shouting, “The darkness threatens! They have come for us!” Suddenly an otherworldly, battle scarred, beast of a clacker rushes into the magic garden. A thousand alarms of warning go off in Marqsaynt’s head as his hands shoot for his trusty old shortswords and his lips unleash a colorful stream of profanity. A small mob near the garden entrance falls on the single clacker in a rage as scattered panicked shouts echo from every corner of the town.

Marqsaynt’s eyes dart around the area half expecting an enraged ulbernaut to come barreling through the garden’s walls. He clenches his jaw.

This is going to get interesting…

[Edit: Since Marqsaynt showed up in Illysia's recounting by name, figure it's alright if I change "fenki friend" to Illysia. :P]

Off to the side, in the Secret Garden a red eyebrow quirks up and red hair sway as Illysia shakes her head. So much for the concert…As if there wasn’t enough foolishness for one day. Illysia scans the crowd for some kind of sign as to what is going on… Jardet would interrupt with this foolishness just as I was about to recite my poems. Another god indeed… Aren’t Laanx and Talad enough? Illysia sighs; confused she decides to stay where she is… far from where Jardet and the bard are standing.

“The eclipse is approaching... “ says a disembodied voice from nowhere and everywhere. “Lovely…” remarks Illysia sarcastically as the tension in the crowd steadily rises. “Fear not, for Talad will watch over us and protect,” calls the fenki bard with conviction. Illysia all but rolls her eyes “At least I have packed food back in preparation.” Illysia smiles inwardly at her good timing for preparation and hunch that the eclipse would in fact be a problematic event.

Velh jumps up "Jardet! What now!? Is it Her?" The other red eyebrow raises at Velh’s enthusiasm for this “Mother” What is he doing?!? He’s excited “Mother” is coming…  “Hold to her, and you will be safe.” calls Jardet. Illysia laughs incredulously, nearly loud enough for others to hear. It is because of her coming that all of these weird things are happening… Illysia barely hears the fenki next to her commenting on Illysia’s poems because of her mind racing about whether to flee for the hills or stay in the garden.

Noriin looks around confusedly "Darn... Let's move our butts out of here!" Illysia seriously considers taking her friends advice and leaving, but some irresistible force prevents her from leaving. Is it fear… curiosity… or “Mother”? Around her, some begin praying, some become very still… petrified with fear. “I had hoped to be in Oja for this...” Illysia laments wishing for the relative safety of the familiar.

Marqsaynt defiantly keeps his self-reliant nonchalance "lets see the gods do their worst." Illysia reels in horror at Marqsaynt’s dare… Has that idiot lost what sense he has!?! He’s trying to get us all killed!!! Illysia quickly backs away from Marqsaynt hoping that she was far enough away to avoid the ire of any god that Marqsaynt had offended.

“The darkness is sucking the happiness out of me,” comes someone’s voice from somewhere out in the crowd that has gathered around Jardet. Loss of happiness is the least of what will happen… The fight or flight response is steadily rising in Illysia, but still she stays. “Believe, pray” calls forth the bard with the same conviction as before. For a brief moment Illysia considers praying to Talad but decides to stick by her policy of not serving the gods or asking anything of them.

Marqsaynt gives Illysia a grin "smart move.. back away from the blasphemer." Illysia barely resists the urge to snort at the cocky comment. Dumb move… be the blasphemer… Illysia has brief thoughts of divine judgment raining down from the skies. She then turns her attention back to the fenki bard as the bard says “To whichever god you believe, pray.” More praying ensues for those inclined to do so.

“It's just the eclipse..” comes one comment. Illysia’s mind reels again before a comment from Marqsaynt brings her back to the present. He smirks "I believe in them all... believe they all have it in for me that is." Illysia looks at Marqsaynt as if he grew two heads. Why wouldn’t they, you mock them and then expect them to take it lightly… Illysia turns her attention back to the previous statement “Just the eclipse?!? Don't you know what that means?” Illysia says in disbelief as her fiery hair swirls around her head as she turns to address the former speaker. Illysia nearly snaps her neck with the swift motion to face whoever would take all the happenings so lightly.

The world went dark…

More praying… It seems as if it had found new popularity with the arrival of the eclipse. Humph! Rely on “Mother” to protect us, Jardet has really lost it this time… “I prefer to stick with the gods I know thank you...” Illysia all but sneers as she interjects her opinion.

“The monsters invade!” shouts a woman that enters the garden in an uproar. Illysia feels her heart plummet to the deepest parts of Yliakum with those words, she knew they would come... She drops her ever present large sack and pulls out her two new, high quality shorts swords. Thank goodness Indy got me these… What a time I would pick to not wear my leather armor. At least I still have on some leather... She waits for whatever creature or horror may come….

*Long before the crystal eclipse consumed the sky, Chorval found himself mining, he would have assumed just rob people for his earnings, but somehow this alter ego of his, the friendly and kinds side was making it all the harder for him to do his job, as a bandit. So as he dug at the rock like a good upstanding citizen would earn trias, he began to feel weary from this intense labor... So he sat down to catch his breath, and took a drink from his flask... He had no idea how hard of work this was, and apparently pushed himself too far. He found himself drifting away into a deep slumber, not even the sound of picks against rocks from the other miners could wake him.*

*Timed passed, and eventually he awoke, but when did, he was surprised, for there were no noises about, no hammering of picks into the rock wall... Still very tired he rose and looked about, it was dark, very dark... at first he did not notice how dark, he could only figure he slept the day away and that night fall had come.. He looked for his gold sack, but ironic enough... It was stolen. So he decided he would start again, after all, he needed the trias. the beating of his pick into the rock wall slowly awoke his senses even more, until he realized that it was too dark to be nightfall.. Suddenly the words of a fanatical laanx preist rang in his mind. Speaking of a a crystal eclipse.... It was cold, very cold... without the crystal's energy temperature dropped. He looked about, rubbing his hands together for warmth... It was no time to be out mining.*

*After packing his things together Chorval made way for Ojaveda, running as fast as possible to keep warm. Although when he arrived he was, a bit shocked to see what was there... His eyes beheld an ulbernaut, maulbernaut, tefusang, and marfusang... His eyes widened, but then logic came to his mind. No way... I must have been in the cold too long, Im seeing things!.... He dismissed the creatures as only tricks his mind was playing on him, he walked into th' broken door and Brado gave him a mug of beer to warm him up, Brado's bar was empty, and so he had no other customers to tend to, in an act of great kindness, Brado brought Chorval a blanket to wrap himself in. Such an act of kindness on Brado's part helped to soften the hard bandit's heart even more... For once Chorval felt warm on the inside, despite how cold it was on the outside.*

*Brado, his staff, and Chorval sat around a table in the tavern, their eyes facing the door, wondering how long this eclipse would last... Only a liar could say none of them had deep dread in their hearts. They sat in silence, speechless at what had happened, there was nothing to be said or done, all they could do, is wait.*

I'm a simple dwarf, named Glorgal. I am often given to solitary wandering, fighting, practicing at various trades. Drinking. Definitely drinking.

The last few days had been quite strange. The creatures of the land had been acting odd. They wouldn't fight. Just took the blows of a thousand blades and hammers without flinching. Perhaps they knew what came.

Even the people of Yliakum were different. I noticed more togetherness. A focus on guilds, and even heavy cooperation among guilds. People did silly things, pointless endeavors, that felt, nostalgic. As if all this effort was really unimportant. Does the gold need to be dug from the hard earth? We thought so. Are iron and coal needed to forge and hammer the swords and shields of war? We were sure of it. The skins of a thousand tefusangs, split and tanned and made into armor? We must have it!

A hundred invitations I received to join various guilds these last few days. I ignored them all. I enjoy the company of me, the smell of single combat and the sound of my breath, ragged as I near exhaustion. "I'm just not ready", I said. In a fit of rage, "Why should I pledge loyalty to one group over another!?" I shouted. "What's in it for me?"

One invite, just before the end, was an invite into evil. I was promised power. Great Power, with a capital 'P'. But I forewent that road. I wanted to warn people. I knew something was up. But I give loyalty to even passing friends, and could not spread a warning. So I ran. Ran. RAN across the land to the Bronze Doors, with a bit of carrot juice for an old man. They can have their fun. I'm not getting involved. I picked up a few Ulbernaut furs someone had dropped. I ran. Past miners, digging for gold. Past Enki, slaughtering rogues and trepor and cutthroats in the wild. I dug for tin! A metal I'd only heard of, never seen. I found myself in a ruined place, asking for directions, and a bit of local fare.

I ran. Past a lake with shining fishes, and perhaps something darker, as well. I heard a voice. Or I thought I heard a voice. "Jardet, you have done well, my son". I look around, for the source of the voice. But noone was there. "Did I imagine that?" With a sense of urgency, I ran. through open meadows of flower, over hills, green and bursting with life. I ran.

And at last I reached the last passage way, and once through the last turning, I saw them in the distance; The Bronze Doors! It's been many days since last I saw them. The waterfall, larger than anything. There, there is dwarf country, where a Stonebreaker can feel the cool stone, dark, and comfortable against his skin. Just that long trek up, and I would soon be where I felt I belonged, more than anywhere in this world. So with lightened heart, I ran! My lungs, pumping furiously, screaming for air. My legs, burning like the throat after a large draught of liquid courage. My heart, aching to be close, in the dark tunnels and corridors of an ever-present night. I ran.

And then, everything went dark. The light was ripped from my eyes. I stopped. I was stunned into inaction. A voice, no THE voice, came again, "The eclipse is approaching...", and fearing the worst, I ran. Madly, headlong into the darkness I ran. Screaming with fury at what was mine being ripped from me, I ran! This isn't fair! I cursed the sky, the trees, the grass. I cursed every singing bird around me. But not the rocks, for they would protect me, if only I could reach them in time. "What is going on?", I wondered. I had read the boooks, in the library, and the citadel. I listened carefully to the lore of ancient times. A darkening of the crystal is natural, I had heard. But why now? The evil. The plans in which I had nearly taken part. The evil of which I did not warn! Could I have stopped it? Or lessened the damage? I ran.

And fell over a cliff! Falling off a cliff isn't the bravest way to die, but it kills you just the same. So I died. And found myself not in the Death Realm, but instead someplace incredibly bright, blinding. Perhaps my eyes hadn't adjusted from the darkness, but wait, there was the death guardian, Stolid and silent as alway. This WAS the Death Realm! The darkened crystal had brightened! And oh, how bright it was! I had to get out, to escape and find out what was going on. But if darkness will kill you, the light will just the same. Slowly, I picked my way through the twists and turns, up the first spiral. And strange! There were so many people there! The  Realm was bursting with freshly dead. All shouting and clamoring for answers.

"You, dwarf! What's happening? What did you see? Did you kill any of them?"

"What? Me? Kill who? What's going on? I fell off a cliff in the darkness."

"Monsters!"

"Monsters, where?"

"In the plaza! Terrible things!"

"Don't be ridiculous! The plaza is safe!"

And then, suddenly, nothing.

As darkness fell Aerium stopped, the hills that had once been familiar landmarks became oddly foreboding. Slowly he kneeled down drawing out his sword and shield, ready to fight what ever came from the black. In his mind he felt for the old spells in a hoping they could help him now, in this time of dread. The last sound he heard was that of wings, hundreds upon hundreds.

Two dark capes flies over the plaza. One Dermorian and an Ynnwyn fights over the lead to be the first one to get to Kada-El's. "Not this time Mendax" Lyaph chuckles as he raises the phase up the stairs as the fog lays down over Hydlaa, ten seconds later Lyaph takes a seat near the fire and Mendax stumbles through the door "peek-a-boo" he manages to get out. He breathes heavily "Lyaph look! the crystal is dying" Lyaph chuckles "I am not that easy to fool you know" He turns around and as the fog disappears slowly he notices the pitch black sky over the rooftops. "Get in here" he yells to Mendax "Get down here.. near the fire" Mendax jumps down into the hole where the fire is and they both steps backwards to it. A loud sound of different creatures can be distinguished in the echoes from the plaza. Then suddenly a wind blows through the open tavern doors and straight into the fire which dies at the same time as all of Yliakum seems to  go quiet, black, nothing is there, nothing at all.. not even Lyaph himself, nor Mendax.

Anumesa stares wildly about her as a thick dense fog hides the plaza from sight. After several tense minutes wandering about calling out the names of her friends, she manages to successfully find them....only for the fog to clear about a minute later . She lets out a sigh of relief and goes to join her friends in hushed discussion of the strange event. Suddenly the sky fades to black...not evening darkness, but an all-consuming blackness that creates fear and panic in the nearby citizens. Anumesa grabs her husband's hand and hides her face in his shoulder as a massive Consumer plunges through Harnquist's......

Deep in the hills of Oja Road, by a small lake Maulus yawns and sits up, still groggy from the nap he had just minutes before awoken from. With a tired groan and a few mumbled curses he stands and puts his cloak back on. He looks up at the sky, hoping to tell the time of day, and raises an eyebrow. Ten o'clock? That's much too late.... Racking his brains he searches for the answer to this seemingly impossible conundrum... With a start he remembers the conversation he had heard earlier that day. Two aged dwarves talking to each other over a beer in the Tavern, their wallets had been quite full as he recalled with a grin. They had spoken of an eclipse to be coming some time in the near future. An eclipse? But this soon? I had thought..well...dammit...

With a groan he  shoots off at full speed down the path towards Oja, after a few minutes he stops short, nearly falling over. "Dammit!" he curses and turns back off toward Hydlaa. I can't leave the rest of my mates in the dark...Lyaph will need some help...He runs at full speed, the dark slowly enclosing all around him and the squaks and squeals of creatures shrill and forboding in his ears. He blasts out of Ivory Tunnel   at a breakneck pace, already starting to squint to see. A false night covers the East City as he enters it, stopping only to nick some falka from the Library. as he enters the plaza it is almost pitch black, and spots of light dot the forge and the temple's fire blazes. Quickly, by the dim light of those beacons, He crosses the Plaza, scanning any rooftop he can see for people. Finding nothing, he races up the stairs to the Tavern , and with a sigh of relief he hears Lyaph's voice "Ah! There he is! finally!" With a tired string of swears he goes to the fire to discuss what will be done about this dark that interrupted his nap.....

Rinasho wakes up from a nap in the corner of a street oddly silent and dark he tries to realize what is going on. He puts on his dark cape which he used as a blanket and races toward the tavern. Bumping into stuff in the darkness he reaches the tavern hearing Lyaphs familiar voice and the stunning lights of the tavern he takes a seat next to Maulus and Lyaph. The tavern was of course noisy as usual and smelled of beer he listens to the rumors of monsters and dismisses it as a rumor but then hears roars in the distance and laughs nervously. He silently whispers to himself "This isnt happening...".

The Eclipse, by Shauni Ironstark
« Reply #14 on: October 13, 2007, 09:38:12 pm »
Shauni was sitting on the ledge overlooking the plaza. His gase turned from the darkening sky to the crowds of people running for shelter or sreaming to lannx for help. He turned round to see a skulking forms come out of corners and approach a couple of children whimpering near the blacksmith. Shauni had never seen this type of monster before but none the less he scrambled up and drew his swords. He dived off the ledge and landed onto the roof-top closest to him. He saw that now the children were backed up against a wall and screaming at thier loudest. Then they saw Shauni and hoped he wasnt a monster himself. He skidded off the roof and landed softly on his feet. Within a second he was up and charging and the looming black forms. He drove his swords into the head of one and slashed at anothers back. With two of the monsters down, the was able to get in-front of the children and mutter a few words such as to stay calm and keep by the wall. He then went into a spinning frenzy of swords and this continued for a few minuites. When he noticed the sky was beggining to lighten up he decided to put up one final attack and then hope that the creatures would retreat into the shadows. They did. Shauni Ironstark looked into the eyes of both the children, and collapsed from exhaustion.

[my first go, what do you think?]
