I noticed too that actually increasing the values for anisotropy and anti-aliasing improved performance. With the default settings my client was pretty laggy, after I turned on VBO, set AA and AF to 2x, set my resolution to 1280x1024 and lowered the distance in-game, all the laggyness was gone and I got 30 fps even when on Plaza looking at distant building or grassy areas.

Completely agree with you, my friends. Dueling is dead, if the current situtation remains untouched. While I can see why the range check was implemented, I must also say that the solution to it is inacceptable for the PvP aspect. A far better solution to prevent mobs from being lured away is to have a distance check wrapped around the NPC behavior. If someone tries to attack an NPC from 100 meters away, the NPC should simply not react.

However, I hope that dueling wasn't killed on purpose, and that something will be done to revive it, or else it can be buried and forgotten.

bug report by stylee on it, maybe vote to show that many people do care? that might get it fixed faster

Its confirmed only on some PCs, but worth a try.
Additionally, here is a Hydlaa grass-free map created by Hassadria. (works, but use on own risk)

Some screenies of things where the graphics seem odd to me.. and the last where I could see Miaua and Hassadria running on the spot in the Library section, when they were somewhere else...

The last one is a proof of the existance of "ghost avatars" - your client did not receive the message that they left the current sector, so it still believes they are there.

Second-last: "Hall of Mirrors" effect - the 3D engine doesn't know what to draw in transparent areas, therefore doesn't clear what had been drawn in the last frame. Generic 3D engine problem, more or less obvious in different versions and with different hardware (never saw the complete shy as HOM before 0.3.019, and with a GeForce2 GTS).

Third-last and before: Map heightfield peeks through polygonal map part as long as the camera is in the sector with the heightfield. Solution: Lower the heightfield at this point. Problem: Which coordinate in the heightfield picture is it?... -- Known since ~0.3.015, or so, when "ojaroad" changed to "bdroad01".

I'm a windows user...

currently the lag in Hydlaa is bearable but only because i changed the minimum adaptive camera settings to 25.
The worst areas of lag for me is the plaza and the plaza exit leading up to the North Gate.

I've also got a problem with blackouts on the Ojaveda Roads and the BD roads...however, once in Oja / BD / Hydlaa my graphics come back and I can see things and not just blocks of black.

Was just wondering if during these "blackouts" your having if you were traveling during the night time hours?

I ask mainly because i run windows and to be honest my computer isn't what you could call a top spec machine.

I just want to remind you that with the new lighting effects in the open ( not in a city)  it can get real dark, real quick and any area that would normally be a green hill side of cliff face is going to come out as pitch black.

but this is most definately during day light hours...so far as I can see its nothing to do with the system i'm running it on, i've even had a bit of outside tech advice on it.

In short: Duelling sucks now! Please remove the distance checking for duels!

In detail: I think the fun is spoiled since only stats and levels decide now who wins. Not timing and tactics (nearly). I could also go and play Regnum now (flame me! I am wearing an asbestos suit!). I also think it is unrealistic. Why should anyone start an attack directly in front of an opponent when it takes him 3 or more seconds to bring his sword down on them? Another annoying thing is that you can be killed by the opponent when you /yield (although I never do that ;) ). I always hear arguments like 'now it is like in all other games'. I ask back 'why do you think is that a good idea?'. People had lots of fun with the duelling systema as it was. If they now want to compare their stats and levels they can agree before duel not to move.

I can't say I didn't see this coming. There are countless discussions on player skill vs. character skill. The PS development team decided on character skill as it is a role playing game. Get used to it.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

I am not the dueler-guy, nor do so often at all. But each time I did, it always was a very funny and exciting option while maybe not many people were on, I just was bored or I just wanted to have some distraction. This is completely gone now.

For some maybe more discussable argument now.
For the sake of realism, ranged fighters like bowman (not implemented yet, so take mages and their arrows/flame burst/whatever). Imagine you focused your char to be a ranged fighter, light armor, no melee skill. You want to fight, have to approach on arm's reach, challenge and get killed at once. Again, for the sake of realism it completely makes no sense to me. You may argument pvp'ing could require some players agreement, ok. But that wont work with npc-beasts.
The latest with implementation of bows you would have to change that "feature".

WHY did they decide that? Please tell me! If it was a decision based on dissatisfaction of the huge ammount of players, I might have missed something.

Search the pvp fourms maybe? I'm not going to spoon feed you. As for ranged weapons and that, its a bridge we'll cross when we come to it. That could be years off yet or next update. Who knows. Anyway, the devs have yet to terribly fail. They'll prevail as always.

'They' decided you should not be able to steal an NPC by attacking it from 100 yards. As far as I know no-one decided that dueling should be as it is now. This has nothing to do with the discussion about player vs character skill, so please just wait and do not repeat eachother. Maybe someone could go through the 7 pages for me and point out any post in this thread saying anything else about duelling than that at the moment this is not as it should be. Maybe by then you will also notice that in this whole thread there are only 3 problems mentioned:
- guildhouse locking is not working
- duelling is no fun
- there is lag!
All of these are added to the bug tracker and are being looked into.

Now please go to the WHAT IS WORKING FOR ME thread, as that one definitely has more different points, but could use more :)
