Crash at loading
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:25:53 am »
I have downloaded the new client and I can log on to the server, however when I select a certain character, it gets halfway through loading the world and crashes. The famous "Something unexpected happened in PlaneShift: Crystal Blue" crash. However when I log in using a different character it works fine. I am assuming they are both loading the same map (the new tutorial map). I currently can't log in as my main character now.

System Specs:

OS: Windows XP SP2
Graphics: ATI Radeon X300 SE (128MB)
Processor: AMD Athlon64 3200+  (2.01Ghz)
RAM: 1GB

Details: EXEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 00E37D1C
I have the .dmp file here

Thanks in advance

I have this problem also except it is all of my characters...  I did manage to log in as one who had been mining and was staring at a wall, but as soon as I turned around enough to see more of the world he crashed too. I have alternately gotten the "pure virtual function call" message or the "Access Violation error"

OS = Windows 2000 Pro with all the sp's and updates
CPU = AMD Athlon XP 1800 (1.2Ghz)
Nvidia GeForce FX 5700LE (256M)
1G Ram

try opening pssetup and toggeling the preload models [if on turn off and if off turn on] this is a bug in the windoze client.
if that does not work i am not sure what the bug is.

It didn't work. Thanks anyway.

But I have noticed that the newly created characters that are going into the tutorial arn't affected. But my older characters that skipped the tutorial have this problem. So what does the rest of the world have the the tutorial doesn't?

So that's why my system window kept going "Suvok has just joined... Suvok has quit... Suvok has just joined... Suvok has quit... etc." :P

Well, the only thing I can think of is maybe the location your characters where last logged off now causes your game to crash... or if you are like me and people casting some high graphic spells sometimes messes you up, maybe you were just really unlucky and were trying to log on in the middle of a magic show. :P Maybe a nice GM would be kind enough to try moving your character to a different map?

I'm hardly a computer genius but, eh, I'll suggest anything to stop my system window from being spammed. (kidding)

Hope to see you IG soon Suvok.

Hehe. Of what I remember, Suvok is either somewhere around the Plaza somewhere, or in the tavern.
And I was under the impression that the said character has to be online in order to be moved.

But it seems to be something to do with the map, as when I finished the tutorial with a new character it crashed with that as well.

I'll try to cut down on spamming my friends system boxes.

my crash is again the same as Suvok..
I created a new character in the new tutorial area and it runs just fine, but none of my old characters have run..
I have also gone through the settings, turning everything I can find on and off in turn to no avail.

also, my 3 other characters are in different maps, so it cant be just one area.. Grroww is in the new area of OjaRoad1 by the 4 little huts that look like sauna's and the all-black dudes.. another char is by the old gold mine outside the magic shoppe, and I *think* the third is either near the ruins on BDRoad1 or he might be in Ojaveda. its been a while since I've played him, hehe.

Well if I remember correctly, your character is an Enki, right Grroww? So would that mean that you're crashing in Oja and Suvok is crashing in Hydlaa?

Hmm, it seems weird to me that the tutorial area works and none of the other maps... Hope you guys get this all figured out soon but until then, I guess enjoy your time in the "Noob Prison" (tutorial area). :P

Edit: you answered my question as I was typing it. You RP a mind reader, Grroww? :P

Edit 2.0: Just a random thought but, I also seem to recall one bug after an update where people would crash while loading because they had, i think, left there inventory window open before logging off... could something similar be happening here maybe?

I dont know if this is any help but it may be related. When I relight the Hydlaa Plaza in the pssetup the setup window crashes. Same with the Oja roads, Akkaio, BD Roads, East Hydlaa and half of the sewers (The relight cuts out halfway through the sewers). Other maps seem fine. I'm going to redownload the game again. The maps might be corrupt or something.

its possible that I left the inventory open on one char, but not all 3.. also I can create a new char and play in "noobie jail" but as soon as I leave for the real world I crash, and cant log in with that character..

and yes Grroww is a menki ;)

I have 2 simple questions for all the people experiancing this problem.

1. Did you charaters get logged out in an area that has been heaverly modded by the new update?
2. Are you running a RAM recovery program (i.e. Cacheman)

Although i'm not anything other than a player i have a fair amount of Exp with coding and use of simalar engines to the one that PS uses and from what i can make out as it stands. There may well be a global hash code conflict with your starting location. If this is the case then it is easy enough to fix however it would require the help of " the powers that be " better knows as a mod, GM , or GOD him self  ::|
" Within the wind comes the faint cry of a lonley flute this  alone can mean one thing, Ceja has found he's prey "

" Someone loves you ............................. Shame they aren't here "

The only things I have running in the background are Daemon tools, and Antivir guard, and dissabling those does not help the problem

*EDIT* I take that back!  I disabled those and it works now !!    so this issue is most likely caused by my virus scanner..
if it matters the anti virus I use is antivir by Avira; You can find more info about it at www.freeav.com

No and No. Nothing running in background like that and I am fairly certain that I logged out last in East Hydlaa.
