My tendency is to sign on and check out what's happening at Harnquist and the tavern. If there's someone who I recognize, or if there's a conversation happening that attracts my interest, then I stay.  If not, I sign off unless I'm going to be around my computer but not using my computer.

I watch the players online from outside the game, and log in as the best matching alt char... ;)

I have recently joined I would play more but the monsters being offline for fighting all the time spolils the game. I understand that this is a Alpha test but it still makes the game a poor playing experience. Love the game when all its parts are working but that recently; at least as far as a newbie like me is concerned is not that often. I do quests and try to get skills for crafting but the fighting is intrinsicly linked to both so its unusual for them to be seperated in this way

If lack of things to poke with a sword spoils the game for you, I pity you. Go out and interact with other characters. Its the greatest part of the game.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

A very unlogical deduction, calling someone a new player because they gave you advice on how to enjoy Planeshift.

Either way, I think you're just not interested in a game that is being developed so I suggest you go find a completed game to have fun with or come by regularly to check the status out and only play when things are stabilized. Bugs and NPC server downtime will be a recurring issue with Planeshift for as long as it is being developed.

For the last time as its not what the threads about sorry for the hijack the word "pity" is not advice, and please read what I said I never said I did not play all aspects of the game (including player interaction, but not soley MSN).  Dont assume im not an experienced games tester, I make no asumptions about you.
Fighting is part of the game and is linked to all aspects of the game including player interaction ie duels. If the game owner wanted a copy of MSN (Microsoft copywright) im sure it would not be as popular as this game. Im not here to defend my self to ever person who doesnt read my comment properly, roleplaying needs people to read the whole thing not the bits they want to read. So if people want to give players advice then they should do so in a manner which roleplaying is akin to community and respect, people get the respect they offer. Im done here knock yourself out supporting each other at least that shows community spirit but if you have a problem with what I said first read it properly.

You didn't mention roleplay once, that's what Parallo was pointing out.  So... no, he didn't misread your comment, if anything, you mistyped it.

Now, stop being a sour puss and enjoy the game.

Sadboy nobody has a problem with what you're writing .. you however seem to have a problem with people trying to explain that PS is rather unique. Don't be so offended :P

I think he just meant that since fighting is linked to everything via pps, its quite hard to do anything at all when the main source of exp is down.

I agree, one of the problems that I see is that there are not enough quests given by a single NPC (currently, although I completely understand this is a work in progress).  Many key NPCs offer a maximum of three quests; I would expect them to offer six or seven, where the reward XP becomes greater as the NPCs' questlines progress.

On topic:  I play when I have time to, but always in my house nowadays.  I would play more if I could get the thing working on my Vista laptop.

Well yeah, but you're still left with the problem of finding them.  Another thing is that NPCs could make recommendations to other NPCs that offer similar quests, when they have no other jobs to offer.  For example, Harnquist could say "I have no other jobs for you right now, try Trasok in Akkaio" or something. (Yes I know I'm stealing ideas from other games)

Why would he send you to his only business rival for miles? There is plenty there to be found. Its just not shoved in your face.
