Too Dark
« on: October 26, 2007, 11:05:32 pm »
At times, I can't see anything at all. It's simply too dark!
Code in either hand-held torches/lanterns, or something like fullbright back into the game.

agreed... was just in there on my way to Ojaveda and middle of the day (game time), it was dark as midnight around me but it followed me as I moved... so it was light in the distance but as i moved closer it got darker... and fullbright doesn't work

On this subject, can anyone explain why creatures in the Arena get lighter/darker with the time of day? I was fighting a grendol at 1AM in-game time and (s)he was almost completely black. Also the area around the arena (that looks to be inside a cave) gets lighter/darker with time of day also.

Thoughts? References?

Because there's less light at night?

Less light at night i understand...

Less light in a building lit by torches on the wall... shouldn't change day or night when there are no windows.

The arena has an open roof. I know it. I once jumped over the whole thing.

BTW: This "brightness control" solution is ... uhm, imperfect ... this is not "gamma correction", it is rather "changing the crystal brightness", and does only work in maps where the "crystal light" has a specific name, I guess. E.g. only at the Hydlaa plaza, but not in Kada-El's tavern or in guild houses, especially not in the Death Realm.

And it doesn't affect the GUI.

If the game is too dark, it's your machine, not our game code. I have never needed to set any special settings and the game is perfectly bright for me and everything is visible at midnight
There is an alternative, more probable theory that 9/11 was in fact caused by Hanson's 1997 smash hit 'MMMBop.'

I normally appreciate the light-hearted responses... but is this a bug or not:

Characters in enclosed spaces get lighter/darker with the in-game time of day. This has been observed in Laanx Dungeon and the Arena. The Dungeon and Arena themselves are not affected by time of day, but the creatures inside of these areas are.

@ Gravemind:

Then your monitor is not calibrated for graphic and video editing, you are possibly running it at a mch too high brightness level. I have to raise the gamma value of the graphic card to ~2.0 to enjoy the game.

Ligh, I also use my PC monitor as my xbox 360 screen, due to the fact that I don't have any kind of high-def TV but the monitor is 1280x1024. I would notice if it was too bright. Not to mention I sometimes get bored enough to play doom3 on my PC (that being the best game it can run) and everything is dark the way it's supposed to be.

Here are some screenshots of the game during the night and during the day, selected for your viewing pleasure
