New Dice Game
« on: October 27, 2007, 11:46:29 pm »
Upon searching the forums and finding an incredibly small amount of dice games, I figured I'd try my hand at making one. (Can't think of a name though, if you have one, please, feel free.

It is a 3-5 player game using 2 6-sided dice.

1.   If you care who goes first (for strategic games, it matters):
      - Everyone rolls 1 6-sided die.
      - Highest number goes first, second-highest goes second, etc.
      - In case of a tie, those players roll again.
Note: If you don't care who goes first, just pick amongst yourselves ;)

2.   Each player states a number between 2-12, starting with whoever is supposed to go first, picking first. While it may not seem important who picks first, it is for strategies, see below.

3.   Each player rolls 2 6-sided dice. The person who is closest to the number they picked recieves 1 tria from the the third-closest person (lets face it, they're last ;)), and the second-closest person gets nothing. In the event of a tie(i.e. the difference between the numbers are the same for 2 or more people), those tied players roll again (and then same as above).

4.   Players pick numbers again; the player who won the last round has to pick first, the player who got second last round picks second, etc. However a player can NOT pick a number they picked previously! Players then continue steps 2 and 3 until all 11 rounds are completed (i.e. All available numbers are picked).

Advanced Strategy:

Since 7 has the greatest chance of getting rolled than other numbers (6 and 8 are next in line for probability, then 5 and 9, etc. until you reach 2 and 12 which are the least likely numbers to get picked), it is often desirable to pick 7. However if you are the third person in line to pick, chances are most of the mid range numbers have been picked. If you pick a mid-range number aswell, you have just as much chance to win as the other person. However if you pick a low/high-range number when the other person picks a mid-range number, you can save your mid-range numbers till the end when your opponents (theoretically) have run out of mid-range numbers to pick and have a far greater chance of winning those rounds. Thus it is often desirable to pick your numbers third, so you can see what other people have picked and pick the opposite. Or you can just forget strategy and pick whatever numbers you want ;)

4-Players

Adapt the instructions above to suit four players by:
- Player in first gets 2 tria
- Player in second gets 1 tria
- Player in third gets -1 tria (gives to second player)
- Player in fourth gets -2 tria (gives to first player)

Otherwise it is the same as above
4 players is a slightly more unbalanced game than 3 players

5 Players

Adapt the instructions above to suit five players by:
- Starting entrance fee is 33 tria each
- Player in first gets 2 tria
- Player in second gets 1 tria
- Player in third gets 0 tria
- Player in fourth gets -1 tria (gives to second player)
- Player in last gets -2 tria (gives to first player)

Otherwise it is the same as above
5 players is a higher stakes game than 3 players.

6 Players

Split into 2 groups, then see above.

Up The Ante

For a higher stakes game, multiply the above values by 2 or whatever number, depending on how high you want to go.

Note: Unless specifically stated, values are not multiplied, simply the same as above

It is a fairly simple game, despite the fact that it looks long (I tried to be descriptive and cover every situation). Some of this game is based on theory not actual testing; if you try it and you have a suggestion to make it better, please comment.

sounds slightly similar to one I invented in game once called Fifty, couple of instruction books floating around PS somewhere. :)
