For starters, I would like to say: Great work devs! PS promises to be a rival to even World of Warcraft, but without the cost! No exaggeration.
Onto what I would like to see: I spend many hours everyday on a pocket pc, running windows mobile. If is possible, I would like to see PS go mobile. I'll even help out, if need be.

no, i don't expect it very soon either, i think it would be very...practical in this world, where mobile devices are becoming more common

Practical maybe. Possible...not too sure.

PlaneShift currently causes desktop computers to strain. I'd hate to see how my PDA would hold out.

things change.., I believe in ten years there are devices similiar to the PDA's today with the power of today's desktop computers..
you can already buy devices in a similiar size to PDA's with a real windows or linux as OS. (So called "Ultra Mobile PC's") Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-Mobile_PC
So no change in ps is needed since it already suports windows. You just need an enought powerfull mobile device.

I think that within 5 years, high-end PDAs would be powerful enough to handle games like Planeshift with no problem. My estimate might be too ambitious, but the technology is headed in that direction one way or another.

well, my pocket pc is fairly low-end, but it should be able to handle a version of PS, where graphics, and a few other things, are turned down, the strain would be low enough to be playable, while still being worth playing.
I could be wrong, as only tests and experiments can give an answer

Another issue is download size, assuming we are talking about cell phone games.  Even if displaying complex graphics on mobile devices wasn't an issue, there is still the issue of how long it would take to download and how much space is required to store it.  The only way that would be feasible is if all of the media (3d models, textures, music, etc.) was procedurally generated, such as in .kkrieger.

well, with how mobile devices are going, storage wont be a problem. I use a HP iPAQ (A pocket pc), and the most memory it has is 900mb. That space can even be increased with additional memory cards, but its the loading times that is mainly worrying me

yeah storage is not the problem, the problem is still the graphic card of these devices. And, correct me if I'm wrong, you're PDA doesn't have a graphic card with more than 16mb memory. For PS this is simply not enough..

Minimum Requirements for PS:
GeForce 2 or higher 3D graphics card (64MB of video memory at least)
1 Ghz CPU
512 MB RAM
1 GB free disk space

maybe in a few years you can run ps on such a device...

Don't forget that PS develops as well :)

When I started with ver. 016, it ran smooth on duron with 500MB ram.
Now I have troubles on Athlon1700 with 700MB ram...   :innocent:

I could see the use of having PS on a mobile device when you mainly are doing a repetitive task such as crafting.  What? Long bus ride to work? Pull out your fancy smart phone and make a few ingots.  Locked in the bathroom because you shouldn't have had that burrito? Turn on the fan and RP!

i believe in 5 years PDAs will be so powerful that they will make grilled cheese sandwiches by you just thinking about it.. no need for action just think about it and "BAMM!!" you have a nice melted grilled cheese sandwich waiting in your pocket.. :) hmmm good... careful not to crush it.. ..lol  ;D

To clarify, I was referring to the download size, assuming you're using a cellular phone connection.  Nobody's going to want to waste their minutes downloading psclient alone, but if it's a PDA and not a cell phone then I guess downloading wouldn't be a problem.

@Eletiy: The only reason y u need so much vid mem and power is so that things display smoothly on the monitor, but with these small things, there wont be so much of a demand. I have spent several long hours thinking on this, that is y loading is my prime concern
