Octarchal Auction
« on: November 02, 2007, 07:55:17 pm »
A ruddy dwarven town crier makes his way into the plaza of Hydlaa. He stands up high in the fountain of Laanx. He unrolls a scroll with the Octarchal seal of Amidison Stronghand printed clearly on the back. He clears his throat loudly before begining,

"Hear ye! Hear ye! The Octarchy has decided to sell off some of its assets to be able to provide for the peasants. All bidders or onlookers shall gather at the North Gate ONLY during the time of the auction itself. the auctioneer will be none other than the esteemed Rinastin. The event will be held at the appointed hour. . . [2 November, 19:30 GMT]. "

[Due to server constraints it is requested that everyone get in place and be seated for the entirety of the event.]

[This part of the great series of auction which happened today were quite reasonable :) 6M and 3M if i remember +/- but i wouldnt have spent a tria for one of them because they were too near of the others houses which are already occupied. i would love to have an house near the temple, on the left personaly :)

otherwise good job for controlling the situation on the ojaveda auction! it was crazy that someone were bidding money that he didnt have with him!!
otherwise the players were acting good , maybe they learnt from the precedents ones ;) ]

[Millions of trias for a house is put simple just not roleplayble at all - sad that its still the same outcome: fully ooc. I wont complain, as it is an auction an directed by players. But I wonder how to handle it, as to pay 5M for a house, then rp to have bought it for a realistic price I cant accept. No, I wont rp people buying a house for millions, it makes no sense. So I will keep off those auctions and will keep on roleplaying our house

I know, this is discussed already, I just want to bring up that fact once again]

[How is it not roleplayable? Some people have tons of tria, and you can't argue with that. It doesn't seem OOC at all.

Also, I got some screenshots of the first auction, and I'll put them up later.]

I suspect its only OOC because you are mistakenly aligning the value of Tria with the value of the actual money in whatever country you live in, there was never any indication in the game to me that T1=$1.00. T1 might very well be 1 cent (which makes sense with the price of food and etc, an apple 1 tria), so 3 million Tria is actually only = to $30,000.00, which is quite alright to me. The problem is because we only ever talk in Tria, and that is the smallest denomination, it's like selling a real house but instead of calling it $55,000 you are calling it 55 million cents, now that sounds  a lot. The value of large items like houses should be stated in Circles or Octas, not Trias, and at 250 Tria to the Circle that makes C12,000 or O30,000 (I think, someone correct me if I am wrong)

I was referring to stated relations [1]. A pterosaur is 45000trias and "Only extremely wealthy people can afford these lizards" [2].

5M trias 20 farmers wouldnt earn in whole lifetimes settings-wise (admitted, assuming earthly lifespans of 80 years) , and there may be one even owning 2 houses?
That all might be ic, but then the octarchy doesnt seem to be ruling fair. Riots would occur now and then, people would revolt and burn down houses, and the image of that peaceful and lovely Hydlaa would fail badly.

However, of course I would prefer the ic-case, as its much more interesting.

No they are going for millions because there are still not a lot of houses available (that players can buy) and people want them for OOC reasons i.e owning a house. IC houses would be sold all the time so the demand and price would be much lower. The price will only become reasonable when lots of houses are already sold. Altough as these ones at the moment are guild halls they will cost more than a home anyway.

These are not 'home' houses. These are luxury Guildhouses. Think of them more like high rent office buildings, and you will be closer to the truth. No one actually lives in them, so farmers and homeowners are safe from the crazy costs.

There is only the guildhouse interior modeled right now, so there are no actual homes available yet. It is possible that homes may be sold at standard rates by NPCs, or available though a purchase in a quest. Don't quote me on that, as they may also be sold the exact same way guildhouses are.

[We earned most of our trias with pure RP. Just for not putting everyone in same group, thanks.]
