C'mon be realistic
« on: November 04, 2007, 03:39:44 pm »
Ok, first off i've read some forums and played the game some and what i noticed is this big green neon sign above everyone's head stating their name and guild if any. Now if Talad or Laanx or whoever has blessed us with this knowledge to look upon another and already know their names and also to reach into their pockets and grab their scrolls (birth certificates life history journals etc.) and know all about this person , then well i guess thanks... Or not! I mean i've seen the roleplay push in this game and have been asked to "Act" out asking who a person is and to converse go to the tavern blah blah. But would it not be easier to roleplay if indeed i did not actually know the persons name? Several examples i've experienced is getting "whispered to" ( a tell ) asking if i would join their guild, now this person knew my name already , AND is whispering in my ear! How freaky is that when your at the forge hammering away on a sword and some stranger whispers to you.... Also someone challenges me to a duel because all they had to do was read my information and say "oh hey i can beat this guy" , if there was no inspect i am just an invisible person and could possibly duel and they would not know what skills i have and what i can do right? Maybe with an introduction and a conversation could they know my name (Then maybe add me to friends scroll Therefore they get the nice green neon sign to know they have befriended this person.). OR They actually have skill in "Mindreading" to know who i am and what my history is. Also perhaps a 2 week on friends list, cause you know maybe you forget the name of said persons with only one meeting, so the next time you see them you go "hey how's it going.....what was your name again? " of course with more intelligence you could extend said timer or make permanent.
Secondly i wonder about auction i mean is there a big sign somewhere with big bold red letters stating the sales of such items that i can just look up anywhere in the city and go "oh i could use that item". An idea i could think of is that we could buy a merchants stand place the stand down and then put our items on the table, then a passerby could click on the table and see what the merchant is selling. Ask how much for item merchant gives price they make a trade. As a community i'm sure we could find a Merchants row to place these stands and can put them anywhere down a street , road , or maybe across a hill out Bdroad......with word that this is a place we will sell our goods. With the stand in place if someone is walking by you could "say" I'm selling swords would you be interested traveler? , Or shout "New stand up, come take a look at my wares swords, shields, glyphs i have!"
/rant off lemme know what you think or translate however you see fit.

One must be able to both keep IC and OOC knowledge seperete. The names are there because it allows us to report people for breaking rules and such. We as characters don't see them. People also need to use a description properly. Life stories DO NOT go there. Its a physical description. Thats it. Said tells are also OOC. Thats not something that should be changed because OOC communication with friends is nice. And finally, auction sure as hell beats spamming the shout. At least I can ignore auctions.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

what you suggest is actually whats being emphasized and recommended, its the way ps is meant to be played.
those facts in a chars description are completely ooc, as well as the green tags per se. you will meet many people asking you about your name, and the ones strangers who already know oddwisely (by tag obviously), just explain to them that they just cant know. the latter is the way i was once taught, and i told quite some people, and it was always taken with pleasure as its providing a deeper experience of ps.

hm auction i always pictured as shoutings, displayed in a separate tab for a better distinguishing.

ps: i never thought of those tags are there for people can be reported of breaking rules oO the more i always assumed its for recognizing an ylian friend of known face, in the midst of a crowd of other ylians - lack of custom-models. tells can be used ic properly, for instance to whisper a friend next to you, yet most of the time i agree, misused ooc-wise.

You are right. That is another purpose, but imagine everyone looked completely unique. A way of telling OOCly who the character is is required. Licence plates would be a tad worse; 'Did you get the number on that duel spammer?' :P

Well as it is for this game i choose to not use ooc at all and despise the ability to inspect others. Anyone talking to me ooc like it's a normal thing will get no answers at all , calling me by my name without properly knowing my name will get no answers from me.

It should get a bracketed crash course in the difference between OOC and IC.

I will say it here , not in game that for anyone that may recognize my name here it is the same in game, some of you have gotten distraught and said some nasty things , I am only ignoring you for the simple fact that you are out of character with your interaction with me. So don't get all bent.  ;D

Almost thought you were a certain person, Sraalok... Or maybe another person who is closely tied with other said person.  ::| Just like tag names, levels and stuff are supposed to be OOC. Just saying. Blah. FWEEE!  O--)

You do know that you can switch the name labels off in options?

But then you still see the names in the chat window.
Kaeleb says: I sell gold.
Dude says: I buy gold.

But what if I didn't know Dude's name!?  ;D
