[Hmm, a couple questions, Eurac. 1. Can a person pick the same number multiple times? i.e. 13, 13, 13 as their lottery ticket?. 2. Does a person have to match the numbers in an exact order or just match the numbers in general? For example, if the ticket number is 25, 50, 2 would a lottery roll of 50, 2, 25 still make that a winning ticket?

*crunches a few numbers...*

If I am remembering my stat classes correctly, I think the odds for this if you can't select the same number multiple times is (1/50)(1/49)(1/48) = 1 in 117,600 chance of winning if you have to match the numbers in the exact order. :o OR 117,600/3! = 117,600/6 = 1 in 19,600 chance of winning of you don't have to match the numbers in the exact order... either way I think maybe the odds should be just a tad bit better since I imagine you're probably not going to be selling tickets into the thousands per draw. May want to think about limiting the numbers you can pick to something more like 1-15 or 1-20 instead of the 1-50. :) Either way, short of the odds being a bit high for my taste I like the changes.]

[Oh please Marqsaynt, it wouldn't be a lottery if you didn't stand a remote chance of winning ;D ]

[Wonderful job Eurac]

[Hm, I thought about the odds too.. but in the end the jackpot sums up, hm? And: how is it now, now that Sheneer gave an example? Can one just buy.. lets say 20 triplet numbers?]

[I'm just saying that lets say he sells 400 tickets a week per drawing (a pretty decent amount I figure considering the player community size), just going by the numbers it would take 49 weeks (a little less than a whole year) worth of drawings, in the best possible 1 in 19,600 case, before anyone would win. :P]

Edit: [And just one other thought I had, the 50 tria a ticket price seems really low to me. If it was something more like 250 sure, you may sell fewer tickets but, you'll probably end up making more money in the long run and having a higher jackpot per week. :D

For Example:

400 tickets sold at 50 tria a piece = 20,000 tria for a jackpot total of 18,000 tria (and a 10% cut of 2000 tria).

Or

200 tickets sold at 250 tria a piece = 50,000 tria for a jackpot total of 45,000 tria (and a 10% cut of 5000 tria)!

In fact, as long as you sell at least 80 tickets at the higher price you'll be guaranteed to make the same or more profit than you were at the old 50 tria price!  (basically as long as you sell at least 1/5 the amount you sell at the lower price you're set.)

This is just a suggestion obviously so feel free to completely ignore me if you want. :P I won't take it personally.]

In answer to Marqsaynt's questions.

1. No. I see your point, the die roll may duplicate itself. I will set a ruling to deal with this. A repeat number in any one draw will be void.

2.No. The order is numerical, from low to high.

I have already considered lowering the range of numbers and have already raised the price of tickets to 100 tria.

Thanks for the number crunching, you have been most helpful.

[So then I start wondering to myself, what portion of the proceeds goes to the government in the form of taxes or bribes? It seems to me that gambling is at the very least frowned upon if not outright illegal in Hydlaa and here we have a player running a numbers game. Tell me where can I set up my kikiri ring so I can get in on the illicit proceeds? oh and how can I get the kikiris to fight as they seem to be always impervious. I do not have a problem, per se, with you running this game but it might be more in line with the settings if you were less blatant about it and possibly set up shop outside the city.]

[Cool Eurac, sounds to me like your new rule changes are definitely on the right track to make the lotto even better. :) I did a quick google and found this site where you can pretty easily just calculate the odds if you want to just see how things are when a few different numbers are plugged in to the formulas ---> http://www.webmath.com/lottery.html. Good luck to you... and everyone else that buys a ticket. ;)]

[Bilbous. The Hydlaa Draw, like begging,(See my ingame description) requires a blatant approach to sell large numbers of tickets to increase the prize fund and the rules are clearly set out. I would like to point out that no animals are mistreated in the production of the Hydlaa Draw.] ::)

[Oh yeah Eurac... From now on, for each ticket sold I'm going to kick a groffel :P (kidding). Also, I'm not sure gambling is so frowned upon... i think there is even a gambler sort hanging out within the city walls. ;)]

[nevertheless the concerns remain valid and you could have hawkers moving through the crowds directing traffic to you and/or taking bets quietly so as to not attract official (guards) attention. there is already a gambling npc in hydlaa and he is not so obvious. Tell me will you continue to offer tickets should the octarch's representatives have a public meeting in the plaza again? Perhaps I will set up a kikiri fighting ring in the plaza, I can always assign them numbers and then roll dice to see which wins. I cannot actually stage the fights but I can role play so doing.

Anyway I realize you are just getting set up but it would not surprise me if you start getting hounded in context. By the way how would you respond to some thugs robbing you of your proceeds? would you hold the draw despite losing the prize money or would you refuse to let it happen or what?

At Marq of course there is but if you ask gregori about gambling he will tell you it is illegal ... unless it is him doing it ... I think.]

[He also mentions that in his book about the arena that you can find in the library... Pretty sure he is only referring to betting on any fights in the arena not Hydlaa as a whole. :) Could be wrong though.]

[Well the dark rogue in Oja whatsisname in the tent has a quest for betting odds so it would seem to be controlled by the underworld. Of course, all of Yliakum might be less honorable than it appears on the surface, just like real life]

[Correct me if I am wrong there, but those betting odds in that certain quest, dont they even contain official people, and not even a Vigesimi?]

EDIT
[As Kisatol wants to have those odds for, my guess, cheating on it, I think its neither 'officially' controlled nor organized or otherwisely influenced by the underworld]

[quite possibly, I got it when it was fresh and never finished it, but none of this really argues one way or another. Perhaps someone from settings could add their two cents?]

There were no winners in the 2nd Hydlaa Draw, the prize fund of 5400 tria will be added to the 3rd Hydlaa Draw. Good Luck everyone.
