Quest descriptions
« on: November 06, 2007, 12:53:59 pm »
Quite a simple request, when getting a quest from the NPC's it would be helpful to be able to ask for a little more information relating to that quest, for example on some of the early quests I was told to visit an NPC but not what town they were in.  I did try asking the quest giver on these occasions but didn't get a reply.  Also the quest journal has very sparse information stored in it for the quest and that data isn't updated on a multipart quest.

To sum up please could we have more info regarding specific quests (not spoilers just reasonable data)

Apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere, I have checked and not found any mention but it is a BIG forum and I may have overlooked it.

Sorry if this seems at all like moaning, it isn't meant to I love this game and just want to help make it great.  :)

Finally if this just requires large amounts of grunt work (data entry / script writing) I expect many members of the community would be happy to assist, I know I would (and will if asked).

For most quests, I use that note feature to write down everything they tell me. Problem is, it never gets saved. ;(

I had that problem initially, but found that after every note entry you MUST press the save button at the bottom, after that I had no problems. On the few occaisions I forget now I really have to kick myself, it seems so obvious now but I missed saving a lot of data for my initial quests.

How about the additional info? I'm not suggesting spoon-feed the dialogue to players, just something along the lines of "Give this to X, he runs a shop just off the warehouse area in oja" to make it a little easier to find the right NPC.  Maybe even make it that the player has to ask the NPC a question after being given the quest.

i.e

NPC "Give this to X"
Player "Where can I find X"
NPC "He runs a shop just off the warehourse area in oja"

By doing this it would reward players for showing a little initiative.

-A thought, if this has been implemented in quests I haven't come across yet and the Devs just haven't got around to the ones I've done. My apologies and I offer again to help with any grunt work needed to implement this in all quests.-

I'll be happy to look into it. Since you don't have ten posts yet, I'll PM you my email address. Tell me which quest and the general idea of which NPC is sending you to which.

We've made efforts for just about every quest to tell you where the destination NPCs are, but in other cases we keep it a little more vague on purpose (such as finding an NPC with such-and-such a job.) We are also working on a system where the NPC won't always be in the expected place!  :detective:

But still, send me a mail and I'll get on it. YOUR quest won't be fixed, but anyone who gets it in the future would be able to see a change.

My forgetting to hit the save button is why I log all my chat.  It even logs what NPCs say  \\o// .

It's a good idea to check your logs if you're stuck in a quest. Sometimes seeing it all at once will show you something obvious that you may have missed the first time.

Another idea that can help when doing quests is to enlarge your chat window so that it requires less scrolling to see the dialog. Many times my standard minimum sized window will not hold all of a speech. I generally keep the chat window small as there is too much general clutter on screen anyway.

Also, the descriptions of the quests should be more complete, because I forgot to take notes on the only two quests I have ever gotten, and I seem to have forgotten the details of them :'(. You know, just something to jog one's memory to figure out exactly where they are in the quest.
