Listbard Vs The Computer (graphics :| )

Hey all, well as you already know im not good with computers. I know how to do some things, I know basic rules, but theres a lot I don't know. This isn't really PS orientated (hence why in the Hydlaa plaza) But I just have a quick question for you all.

Once upon a time I had Starcraft (RTS game) installed on my computer, the graphics were fine, the short movie clips between levels was a bit dark, but no hardship. However for reasons unknown the graphics went haywire. 

Installing and deleting all known files about starcraft that lingered failed to do anything. The glitch still existed.

That link shows a example of the bug, taken from the broodwars campaign selection screen, its pretty much like this everywhere EXCEPT when playing the game.

So I ask, is my graphics card just.... dying?

you could try reseating the card in the motherboard, cleaning the connectors when you do.  and you can also try reinstalling the graphics drivers.

hmmm yes that sounds like a good idea... If only I knew how to go about that. :|

i had the same problem with my pc with planeshift i uninstaled the graphics card restarted the pc and it was fine
i have windows so the way to uninstal you graphics card is to go into control panel then into administrative tools then computer management, on the list of items down the side look for device manager and you should get somthing simlar to this

then open the system devices expand menu and look for your graphics card right lcik and uninstall then restart your pc when you log back in your card will reinstall its self i think you may have to restart your pc again after that. hope its works for you

You could also look on the web and see if there are any starcraft updates or people with similar problems on their forums. The game is getting a little old now and if you are running it out of the box it might be the source of your problems as  windows will have changed since.

Yeah I checked blizzard's forums but only found mounds and mounds of threads, none of which pertained to graphic issues.


Well, reinstalling the graphic drivers didn't help :/

It could be your install cd is corrupt, does it have a lot of scratches on it?

nope, I take good care of it. I have yet to find  a single scratch.

What graphics [mode] are you running in? Some old games insist on 16-bit graphics, as opposed to the newer 32-bit stuff. I know I used to get some weird glitches with MechCommander - perhaps switching your display over to 16-bit mode for StarCraft might help...

(Either right-click on the SC shortcut and hit properties - you'll find an option in there to run in 16-bit graphics - or right-click on the desktop and go to the "Settings" tab, where you can set your entire monitor to run this way.)

I hate double posting... So I'm sorry, but if I ever had a reason to, I'd say now was a good reason.


I learned that during this graphic issue, should I hit the window's icon on my keyboard to minimize the program and bring up the start menu; and after doing this, I bring up the game again, the graphics are perfect again........ for three seconds, before reverting back to horrible graphics.


Today I did something odd, before those three seconds were up, I hit the windows button again, and got an error message upon the game minimizing!

 

I hit ok, and returned to the game, only to find the graphics were perfect, and remained like this!!!


However I turn my computer off every night before going to bed to keep it from slowing down, upon returning to check if the graphics were still good, I found them not to be, I tried this little windows button tactic again, and it worked.... But before ending it I took that screenshot of my nemesis, yes, the culprit behind this mess!!!

But it seems that he carries the banner of my GRAPHICS CARD :|

Dare I launch an act of war against my Nvida?

What course of action should I do?

Run a search, and hunt down the bewitched files and burn them?

its your video card drivers not being able to handle the graphics of the game properly.

you can always see if there is an updated version at nvidia's site.
