Has anyone implemented crafting /commands for the forges?
« on: November 13, 2007, 09:18:02 am »
Has anyone managed to add the following client side?  If so, then where can I get them?  If not, then where in the code should I look to make the changes?  (I currently have not yet downloaded the source code since I’m on a 56k dialup modem, but I will download it for the sole purpose of attempting to add this if I need to, even though I’m not very good at C programming languages)

I think it was more like:
/target furnace
/use 8 iron
/use 2 coal
/combine
/take 10 molten steel
/target stock casting
/use 10 molten steel
etc. Perhaps that is too exploitable for implementation but

which is to say if you don't ask you have less chance to receive.

It is my belief that the current drag and drop click fest doesn’t fit with the spirit of the game; furthermore, because of the lack of /command shortcuts, crafting is the slowest working skill that can be practiced in the game.
If it did fit, then you would be clicking on a monster each time you wanted to swing your weapon for an attack; however, that is not the current case.

Please make the practicing of crafting as easy as practicing weapons, magic, and armor usage.

For things that are probably simple to implement, and are well defined and do not require whole new systems, I'd reccommend adding a feature request to the bugtracker.

That way an admin can look at it, choose to accept or reject, possibly assign it right away, or let it sit until a prospect has time to see what can be done.

Nice to see myself being quoted in a positive way once in a while. One thing that would complicate this is the varied quality factor. If I am trying to purify some low quality stocks I would like to be able to specify "inferior stocks" in my shortcut so that I do not wind up degrading superior stocks by accident. It would also be good if the status message reports the relative quality of whatever product I make, for example "you have created an [inferior | standard | superior] stock, you should not leave a stock here" so that I will know if it needs considerable improvement or might be good enough as is.

Also in the quoted example it would be good if you could specify ingredients on one line instead of separate ones, e.g. /use 8 iron, 2 coal. It would be even better if you could /combine the ingredients without first using them, so: '/combine 8 iron ore, 2 coal lump' after selecting the furnace.

It could also be done something like ‘/use {Number} {Item} {> / < / =} {Quality}’.

But if they decide against that, you could always store the stock that your satisfied with on the ground; your stock should be safe since items are guarded on the ground now.

Are they?  How so?  Is it for a specific time or while you are in the area?  When was this implemented?
