Log-in problem, server
« on: November 18, 2007, 07:32:48 pm »
I can't seem to log onto PlaneShift. The thing is,  whenever I try to start up the game, it displays the message, "Welcome," or whatever it is that it says. To the side, it says "Servers," and below that is Fragnetics. However, whenever the welcome message dissapears, it says "failed" next to Fragnetics and whenever I try to log in it says, "Server is not available," Is this a problem with the server, or with my computer? Is there a way to somehow switch servers?

At this time, there is only one server, that being the one you see.

First step in troubleshooting,  up in the top let corner, what version does it say you have?  if it's something other than .3.20, you have the wrong version and the correct one can be gotten here: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=30383.0

I have 0.3.020.

I went to my firewall and added it to the program list, to make it allowed, but it still does not work.

checking here:  http://laanx.fragnetics.com/

I see that the server is up (as of this writing)  So if you are currently unable to connect, it could be your OS's firewall not allowing the connection, your firewall is not configured correctly, or if you are at an university, using their network to connect (or any network that you don't manage yourself for that matter) it could be blocking the port required for you to establish connection, that being port 7777.

Okay, I see! I'm trying to add the port... but I need to know, is it TCP or UDP?

Thankyou, very much!

*edit*

Er... it still isn't working. I've allowed both PlaneShift and Port 7777. I'm not quite sure what's wrong.

having followed all steps here: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=28600.0

I'm outta suggestions other than to make sure your OS isn't blocking it through it's built in firewall (assuming it may be on)

Are you behind a router? If you can access it, make sure it lets you connect through PS port.

(I say this because I assume you only opened in your SO's/software firewall)

No, I don't believe I have a router. How is it you change the IP?

Why do you want to change your IP?

Oh, and, if you haven't got a router, how do you connect to internet? Just modem, or a router working like a plain modem?

Er... nevermind the IP. I believe I was mistaken. Frankly... I'm ignorant to the computer. I'm not quite sure what a router is.  ???

;) Don't worry.

The router (or the modem, if you're using one) is that piece of hard plastic that your internet provider gave you to connect to internet ;)

It should be connected to your computer either with a cable (named RJ45) or via wifi.

Anyway, first make sure you don't have another software firewall, like windows' one :p

Oh... Yes, I do have a Window's Firewall. No, I don't believe I have a router. I have two computers, one of which is my brothers. Since his, as he puts, "is more expensive and valuable," he has the router, though I do not. The only thing I knew certain about it was that it kept the computer from crashing too badly during a thunderstorm. (Or any storm.)

*edit*

I believe my brother has his router connected to my computer.

Hi anybody...
i have got excatly the same problem:
Ping to Server works (ip and Domain)
Tracert works too
UDP Portscan on 7770-7780 works also (IP: 210.193.49.103 as said in Step by step how to is unreachable, the right one is: 203.81.44.242 (laanx.fragnetics.com) )
My Version nUmber is 0.3.020 (newest, dl just some days ago)
I changed the server.xml already to both ips -->nothing, so no DNS issue
The Server page says 40 Players online (time difference: about 6hrs: germany)
error log says only that some images couldnt be found, which can be a setup util issue instead
So everything works fine, but the Client says still fragnetics ->failed

I am inside a university net, so most of the incoming ports are blocked
are there some to use that should be open? maybe some highports?

any suggestions?
